Love this video and concepts. Remind me of ‘sticky hands’ and ‘small circle’ practice. You transcend styles 👍. Keep it up

This is simply awesome...I will never do san dan Gi without incorporating this incredibly simple technique....but I expect a lot of resistance from my potential partners

It would be interesting to see karate blocks used in full-speed jiyu kumite. It can be done if your blocks are small and efficient to execute in time.

Thank you for sharing -- even these small excerpts contain so much useful knowledge. One could literally practise taekwondo for over a decade and never come across concepts like these.

Sim, com um estudo mais profundo chegamos a um ponto chave, interligar as diversas composições marciais, e questionar algumas visões ortodoxas. Pena que a maioria não pense assim. Ótimo trabalho, oss!

I took one semester of karate in college. It felt too rigid, and I never blocked a punch from my partner because he didn't do karate punches, he just tagged me. The katas seem like a good exercise routine, but I just never saw it as a good self defense methodology after the class. This video makes it seem like maybe I was halfway right. You will lose being rigid but, the movements are good practice.

Do you remember the type of karate you experienced, and the purpose of the class?

@@GKCgoju don't remember specifics. It was just karate 101. I remember the professor spoke about two general styles that were akin to "fast" and "hard", and to practice one with the katas we learned

Last time I was ravished about concet of blocking. I wounder the true block in karate is time when arms are be crossed and next step is move to introduce to grip technique.

Instead of blocking a shirt grab, how about a punch to the face or an eye poke? THAT will open up several openings for further attacks.

First of all it's a misconception to use such blocks against arms/hands. Uke where used against WEAPON (e.g. spear)on okinawa not against arms. A hard uke with a simultaneous hit. Don't believe ? See MMA if they use it or try to use it by yourself against a boxer.

tatum ergo Uke were used against weapon if we speak about Okinawa styles. Kata and bunkai and so on are obselele ways of tranings , analyse of analyse with many many wrong ideas of fight.

tatum ergo ok , i chcked it over. That’s what I mean. This is history. Okinawa occupied by Japan. Any possible dangerous tool is banned. Axe - one, with chain for the Whole village. People from okinawa starter developing technics to defense against armoured Japanese soldiers. The principle was one tough block (with a dodge too) and a simoultanious stroke/blow and eliminatin an oponent. No anotherchance to repeat. He had a weapon. Eg tobi, were used, intended, to come horse rider down. Suddenly, Funakoshi comes up with an idea to reactivate traditional fight style- karate. And what he does ? Yeeees, he applies tough block to parry eg tsuki or mae geri. I want to add, that eg knife - a block is not inteded to block knife but a hand. It is clear. But takie it into account that eg a spear was a weapon that could have been blocked with age uke, uchi etc. And i read about it many years ago. Nevertheless, too much time i have trained, kyokushin, Classic wrestling, and boxing to believe in efficiency of This koryo or for instance any so called interpretations via bunkai etc. As an antidote i strongly recommend watching fantastic Russian trainer Alexy Frolov. You Will see „bunkai” and science applied in training. Im fed up with „ understanding kata” , bunkai” let alone „interpretation” and other technics that are created to make out some secret athmosfere, special knowledge etc. I remeber how many times in 90” gedan uke was changed. From where it was started. Once Both hand close to the head, another time something diferrent. Sorry but all the karate schools i take as a kind of sect. Some need it. I dont. Sorry , Polish suggestins of words , thats why mistakes.

@@piotrp1821 the fights in MMA are real in a sport context. absolutely not a street fight where there are no rules and you can knock out easily or hit the eyes, grab the neck, etc. Sport is show. "Real" fights must last a few seconds. There are a lot of videos where karate concepts are applied to MMA. Lerdsila, furthermore, do a lot of things that I've founded in kata. And okinawans didn't fight with samurais. That's a myth. Jesse, from Karate by Jesse channel, explained that very well. However, your point of view is interesting... It make me think about the lack of videos where we could see this principles aplied in a real free combat.
