Bugoy is originally a pop, ballad singer and when he discovered that his voice fits raggae perfectly, he started dping raggae versions of songs but not a lot of popular artists here can do raggae (he's the only one i know in mainstream). there are raggae bands here but they're specifically raggae. Bugoy is the only pop artist i know that can cross over with no problem. Bugiy is a product of a reality singing competition but he wasn't the winner though (but i was rooting for him). it was the first and only season of Pinoy Dream Academy, a franchise of American Dream Academy, i believe. so many great singers were a product of that show.

When the Original Singer, Matisyahu, saw this performance he immediately invited Bugoy to be with him in his Concert in the US. And this was the time that Bugoy was recognized and started his career, but still underrated.

Bugoy was a cafeteria janitor who loved to sing while cleaning and sometimes his audience was his carabao :) he joined a singing camp/competition and the rest is history...his unique voice is a gift...thanks for having him!

Bugoy is one of the best singers in the country. He came from a very poor family so he had no formal training in singing whatsoever. He used to be a janitor at a public school and would sing his heart out everytime he’s cleaning the classrooms. That was his training back then. 😊

Reggae is not Bugoy's style of specialization. He is quite multi-faceted. That being said, there is another cover (of a Filipino song) in the Reggae style that he sings superbly and is therefore worth checking out and reacting to. We always start in Acapella until we are ready for instruments. Very strict rules if you want to be a singer. Then Karaoke came, the piano is no longer trendy in the Filipino household. And it’s good we can always practice until we get the right rhythm, tune and sound.

He came from very humble beginnings as a Farm Hand in his province then became a janitor at a canteen. You once mentioned in 1 of your Reactions about Vocal Training with Filipino Music Artists, BUGOY never had one nor could their Family afford for him to have one. He was a Star Dreamer Contestant from the PINOY DREAM ACADEMY, Season 2 and his natural singing ability was evident from the start of the completion. When asked how he learned to sing, BUGOY said he loved to sing sing ehe was a young boy and that he sang his heat out to his Carabao everyday! 😂He was the 2nd Place then and became a Regular Singer in ASAP. 💙A'TIN GrandMa S.

You would be inspired by Bugoy's story. He used to be a farmer and a janitor. He came from a very poor family. No formal training in singing and in his interview he said he would sing in front of his buffalo and rice field. He worked so hard and just loved singing until he got discovered and became popular. After that he became rich and educated his siblings, funded their education and built a house for his parents. He is an example of a person from rags to riches. He is the breadwinner for his family and also established several business ventures to be able yo support them. Yet he is so humble.

In an interview with KZbinrs Waleska and Efra, he recounted how he never really heard pop while he was a boy. But he would sing the torchy ballads that he’d heard on the radio while working the farm with his beloved kalabaw (water buffalo). He is dearly loved because he has that delicious warm voice and rasp, and stays kind, light-spirited, and humble.

Reggae is very popular here in the Philippines. Every big Fiesta I have attended there is always a Reggae headliner on stage. Chocolate Factory has been my favorite so far! Saw them on the Beach stage in Sipalay City, Negros Occidental.
