I'm 15 and even I have the experience and the anticipation to not come out at the first goal. My coach always taught me that if there is a defender next to the opponent or near him. Let him deal with it. Do not come out until you see him getting ready to shoot or he loses the defender or you know that the defender won't be able to do much. That, combined with my natural anticipation of the player allows me to save a lot of one on ones instinctively.

Same here but usually I come out when the defenders aren't doing their job and just letting the ball slide past them or when it is a 1v1 which I love. And when the attacker is ready to shoot, my coach suggests to stay still on the balls of your feet so you are ready for the ball. Everyone should know this

As someone who plays in goal at a very amateur level for more than 12 years, I think that those camera saves can only happen if the striker made the shot from a far away point from goal. In real matches, you don’t see those long shots often. I find it more beneficial to learn how to read 1v1 situations or movement around the boxes than just trying to be fancy.
@larsw.9442
@larsw.9442 Жыл бұрын
Same. This is my second season as a keeper, and almost all the goalies from my club in the leagues above tell me that it's vital to master the basic saves first. It helps your team so much more winning games and making points. Plus it's far more "fancy" as a goalkeeper to make multiple simple saves and keeping a clean sheet and frustrating the enemy strikers, than doing one camera save but conceding 5-6 goals in the meantime.

We need more analysis like this! Some great lessons for anyone who wants to improve as a goalkeeper. Although he doesnt like him, he gives him some credit every now and then. plus he doesnt critisize him for every tiny mistake he makes and is really reasonable in what he can improve and what is just bad luck or good shots etc. not saying with the defender corner situation that he shouldve known that etc. also gives good arguments and tips on how to do better and isnt saying like: hes shit, bad dive etc. also love the calm vibe.

The problem with so many youtube goalkeepers is that it's reasonably easy for even a very average goalkeeper to put together a highlights reel that looks great, if you're fully in control. Saving shots is the easy part of goalkeeping, especially if you know when and where they're coming from, and where they're being aimed! Even if you don't know that however, if you record hundreds of saves then you're bound to have some that look good in there. Add in multiple camera angles, slow motion and lots of quick cuts and it's very simple to pull off some great looking saves. However it doesn't matter how good a shot stopper you are when you are doing it in isolation, if you can't read the game, position yourself correctly, make good decisions, then you will never be a good goalkeeper. Like Just a racoon, in one of the top comments, I work with a youth team. I coach for my local clubs U14 side and the influence that these "style over substance" youtube keepers have had is both a blessing and a curse. On the one hand we've actually seen far more kids want to be goalkeepers in the last few years than we used to, but at the same time we're seeing far more of them who are only interested in making those big, flashy saves and don't want to learn how to actually be a good goalkeeper.

One coach who gave me tips on how to position and make proper decisions was GK GOLUREMI. The only legit content maker that i watched to get real time knowledge and i follow those tips during practice. Apart from those it was all just my instincts and love for being the last man standing from either saving your team or dragging them down with you. I have warned my clients not to pay attention to his videos because when someone asks me "I want to dive over the bench" or "over the trash can" or whatever other stunt he pulls, I see the injury! There are virtually NO BENEFITS to his videos. Give him props, they are well done. But goalkeepers do not learn anything from him. Your right i trained to much on reactions and flashy saves so when i actually went to play i would suck on the 1v1 interactions thus i let a lot of goals in abd actially got demoted to second choice keeper

7:26 depends on what level you're playing at actually, i played for third division team and whenever i faced first division team especially taking shots from the foreign player they will put it atleast 1-3 to the middle/top corner shot every game

@ryanhoward1006 Жыл бұрын
But you also have to realize you have third division defenders going against first division attackers. There's going to be more shots in any lopsided match. If you also had first division defenders you'd def see a lot less of those shots.

The logical conclusion is for Mike to call you out in a boxing fight now. 😅 Jokes aside, this Mike fella epitomizes my beef with social media influencers...Theres too many charlatans on these platforms. Its so easy to look the part and to talk a big game. However the moment they face any sign of adversity, they fold quicker than a Japanese lass making origami... Predictable.

Definitely lack of experience playing in a game time setting. That pre lean was my BIGGEST flaw when I came back to goalkeeping because i was a little scared for any shot since I hadn’t taken one in years. Another thing that really gives it away is his lack of distance when the striker is close to goal. Knowing your defender is either slow, not good, or just gets beat you have to close the gap some what and cut off as much angle as possible. Allowing the striker to get comfortable on a shot is just asking to get punished. As a keeper it shouldn’t be your sole job to do that, that’s what defenders are for but you can still time it to help your chances of the save. I.E. some strikers love 2 taps and shoot so on the first tap you move forward a bit to deter the full power or he slows down.

and he is in a youth goal - I played against a professional goal keeper once on the smaller goals. Dude was nearly 2m tall and barely fit into the goal (what most of pro goalkeeper are) and it was basically impossible to make a goal if you didn't pass around him. with shots from bigger range absolutely no chance no matter if low or high.

My first suggestion would be to try and find another keeper to work with. Working with someone else will be infinitely better than anything you can do on your own. But If that's not possible this video should help. All you really need to do is find a wall. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nWixeYqljN-sfa8&ab_channel=GKGOLUREMI

7:53 Winning crosses is essential, it's like 70% of the GK in some games ... I mainly focused on being good at that, reading high balls. Huge saves and that stuff it's just 5% of the job.

The point about following your pass when building out of the back to be an option is so good. Young gks are asked more and more to build out of the back and if you make yourself an option for your teammates you will concede way less goals from them giving the ball away 👏

Hey bro, love this content. You hit the nail on the head with explaining and analysing this dude. Just a video concept idea? Could you maybe start a subreddit and react to some of your viewers saves? I film my matches so that I can improve, and would love to see a professionals thought process/analysis of other goalkeepers just like you did in this video.

Honestly I witnessed this first hand. I see a goalie with 200k followers. Played against him in a coed game. And at half. It was 2-2. Two young boys took this “pro keeper” and tore him apart. Completely. Game ended 13-3 30min half’s. And nothing felt better then exposing him.

Flash saves are all well and good, but I think Neuer said it best, he toke Maldini's saying of "if i have to slide tackle, i have already fucked up" and made it for keepers, and it makes sense. Neuer said "if you have to dive as a keeper it means more time than not you're positioning is bad" Players like Allison, Neuer, Ederson and so on don't get paid for flash saves, they get paid to be effective, coaches at the top level don't care for flashy saves they just want the ball to remain outside. And thats for every position, coaches will always take the player that gets the job done over someone that wants to make it look good

I used to play as a goalie as a kid, on regular pitch, just with my friends and random people that were on a pitch that day. Like yelling at your defenders to ga back, or to cover enemy striker that walks alone is crucial, and very basic skill.
