GKR Heavy Hitters: Sweet & Salty Factions Expansion

2 new Factions join the fight:
Ultra Sweet (Pink) and Super Salty (Purple).
GKR: HEAVY HITTERS is an advertising-driven, televised combat sport where mega corporations fight for lucrative salvage rights and advertising dominance in Earth’s abandoned cities. But more importantly, they need you! Your skills as a pilot and tactician are needed to win, gaining your Faction more fans, and more importantly, loyal consumers.
You will be piloting a Heavy Hitter, the name given to the largest fighting mechs in the battle zone. Flanking your Heavy Hitter in these high stakes sport matches are 3 unmanned robotic support units, consisting of Combat, Repair and Recon. Fighting head-to-head using your Heavy Hitter, you control your entire team of GKRs, strategizing your way to victory. Any dumb mech-jockey can shoot, but can you STRAT? Guess we’re gonna find out!

Great unboxing video. Just got mine this week. A side not of the video however, I'm pretty sure the HP tracker for the support units and the upgrade tokens aren't in the box as it is a 4 player game and the contents are already in the base game box. Otherwise we'd expect 2 more player boards also.

Definitely why they aren't in there, but for what they are charging for the expansion, would it really hurt them to toss in a couple 10 cent clips? Or extra player boards to be honest. Luckily, I got the kickstarter version that came with the plastic dashboards, so I have the original cardboard ones as well. That way we can actually play 6 player

It;s not great, but still a better paint job than I would have ever done on them. My poor mercs have never even been primed and probably never will be.

Concerning the clips and achievement tokens, you don't need them as the game only play with 4 players. But 100% I agree that for its price, they should be in there.

But we have played a few games of 3v3 which is a blast and you do need them for that.

Costs more than the base game contains less than half of what's in the base game. Makes sense. Maybe weta should've used kickstarter to fund this expansion so all the people that bought the game could pool together and maybe cut the price down on this.

I agree, but I think a part of it is also for to the diminishing returns of expansions. GKR was a pretty niche game to begin with and had a very limited fan base. Not everyone wants to get the expansion, so that limits the internet in it even more. Sadly this left them to do a very limited print run and as with anything like this, The smaller the print ruin, the more expensive it is per unit. Hopefully the game gets popular enough to do a larger printing at some point, but for now, I don't see the prices going anywhere. If you can find it on sale somewhere, or are a diehard fan of the game like I am, it is worth picking up. I can't really recommend it got the full price though, unless you absolutely must have it.

Neither Super Salty nor Ultrasweet have Sentry Guns, correct?

Sadly it is a very limited print run for a niche game. Companies reduce costs by doing massive print runs normally. With this being such a small printing, they had to recover the costs of molds for the models and things like that. To that off with the fact that mech combat games only appeal to a very limited audience and unfortunately that all adds up to a higher cost per box. It is also Stonegate of a collectors item, being made by Weta Workshop. I'm sure that didn't help the cost.

You can except you need 2 more player boards. If you have the normal ones and plaid ones from the original kickstarter, you can use those, but you need something to keep track of the energy as they only give four of the little lightning bolt things. 6 players would be kind of tight on the board as well. Ideally it just gives you more variety to choose from, picking from 6 factions each game instead of 4. Although we have played a team game of 3v3 that was a lot of fun. If you were going to play a full 6 player game though, you would really need a larger map to make it interesting.

@@Trueflights with 3 v 3 you mean with 2 players as in one player is controlling 3 mechs? and you also did this on just one board? "normal ones and plaid ones" you mean the extra mechs that are painted and the ones that are not? Yes it seems to me really cool to play this game with 6 players. but at this point it seems impossible to get a version with the stretch goals (i saw one with the painted mechs but it was +- 300€) It seems that i will be trying to get the base game eg 120€ and this expansion . And will try to play it on one board . And thinking about making a second play board in the future for real 6 p game. Since i cannot think of a better sollution. did this for rampage bought the game twice, and it plays awesome.

@@zioforcer You could do it that way, but we actually has 6 people each playing as a team of 3. You do need a bigger board though. We made one. It's pretty easy to match up the hex sizes. Not sure what the "normal and plaid ones" thing was. Must have been a typo or something. The GKR for all factions come painted with decals on them. The smaller support units are just a base clue with a simple wash, but aren't painted. None of the merc units are painted at all, neither is Big Little Buddy. You actually get a better deal burying the game now than sitting the kickstarter. There were a couple ks exclusives, but nothing "must have". When you buy the wastelands expansion now, you get additional bases for all the plastic buildings (which helps if you are wanting to play on a bigger board) where people who got it during the kickstarter didn't get extra bases so you have to use the ones from the bar games cardboard buildings or make your own. Very expensive to buy 2 copies for an extra map, but like I said, it's really easy to make one. It's very tight playing with 4 players on the normal map though, and would be nearly impossible to do 6 on it.

@@zioforcer ah, I see where the typo was. I was talking about the control panels. You get 4 cardboard ones in the base game and the kickstarter cane with 4 plastic 3d ones. I was saying that if you wanted to play 6 player, you will need 2 more boards unless you have those extra ones.

Cool expansion but super overpriced!! I really dont know what they are thinking ... its kind of insulting , im honestly thinking of emailing them to see whats their reasoning

I agree that the price is extremely high. When compared to the base game, it seems even more overpriced. That said, I think a lot of the cost boils down to it being a very limited print run. The production cost of making the miniatures is extremely high, especially with the detail on the large GKR's. Normally this cost is mitigated by making huge production runs and dividing the costs among all of the sets sold. With a much smaller production run, those costs are spread across a much smaller amount of sets being sold and unfortunately it greatly increased the cost.
