Great footage. The guy who filmed this had a flash of panic when he saw how big the wave was and how fast it was travelling. He looked around and was comforted by the sight of zombie tourists who were oblivious to the danger they were in and happily taking pictures.

Ice calving wikipedia: Ice calving, also known as glacier calving or iceberg calving, is the breaking of ice chunks from the edge of a glacier. It is a form of ice ablation or ice disruption and is normally caused by the glacier expanding.

***** They're turning the destruction of our climate into a tourist trap, whom are clapping from the rush it gave them to see giant chunks of ice causing waves. It also incentives operators to manufacture calving events when they realise how much excitement it generates and additional tourists it pulls in, and more energy wasted on transporting them there. If holidaymakers want an adrenaline rush they should go on a roller coaster instead of becoming part of the problem.

Climate change, and Global Warming are two separate theories, both supported by volumes of historical evidence. "Climate Change" is the idea that we are experiencing more extreme weather events, more frequently. Ex: Colder winters, Hotter summers, Stronger hurricanes, Deeper flooding, and Drier droughts. (Keep in mind that this is the short term, weather inherently changes daily, the focus is on the severity of the weather event) Whereas Global Warming is the idea that the Earth, as a whole, is experiencing a gradual increase in average temperatures. (This one relates to the long term, Historical data shows that since the dawn of the Industrial Revolution, the average global temperature has been increasing, most notably currently, when we should be entering a cooling phase) Both can happen simultaneously, and are happening presently. The "Global Scientific Consensus" is that the root cause of this is human caused. Primarily through the release of previously sequestered CO2. That's as simple as I can make it. Now, before you all start crying. I do have a BS in Natural Resources with Management and Policy, with a minor in Global Climate Change. Obviously this is a general statement, so splitting hairs is unnecessary. P.S. The majority of you have it correct that we are supposed to entering a cooling phase, (AKA a minor glaciation), unfortunately, we are seeing average temperatures increase despite that. Now, let me hear some educated, polite, and well formed discussions.
@dianafrazer992710 жыл бұрын
Dr. Benton Quest!
@shortycomstive10 жыл бұрын
none of the discussion during recent decades contradicts what I was taught at school, a long time ago - the Earth cycles through warmer & cooler phases. The last "Ice Age" was about 10,000 years ago, and there was evidence of sixteen previous ice ages. The average cycle is about 50,000 years. So, "Global Warming" has another 15,000 years to run, followed by 25,000 years of "Global Cooling", and then we (or, our surviving descendants, if any) will be at the depth of the next ice age, and warming recommences. Human activity can contribute to our climate, but the question is - will anything we do now be able to significantly affect the inevitable course of events ?
