Glacier in Nevada? Yes at Great Basin National Park - Nevada

Hike to the only Glacier in Nevada which happens to be at the Great Basin National Park. Also showing parts of the Lehman Caves. The park entrance is free! (You pay for cave tours)

I want to think that you were standing on the "rock" glacier. That what can be deemed a glacier is buried under the rocks. I believe the ice caves you saw are, sort of, confirmation that there is ice below. So glad you got back to the wall to document this!!!

Thank you. Yeah it would be interesting to know how deep the ice is. I am glad I made it out of there alive and didn't end up as an ice mummy ;-)

I was there 6 years ago for the Dark Skies festival. If you are looking to get away from it all, this is the place. Because, there is really nothing around. I stayed at the Stargazer Inn, though it had a different name back then. Supplies are also limited. You may want to have the hotel restaurant pack you something for the trail if you are leaving early in the morning. And it is dark. You will not see the Milky Way anywhere in the lower 48 like you will here. But just remember, it is scary lonely out there. Enjoy.

Traveled thru Great Basin N.P. / Lehman Caves 12 yr.ago on roadtrip ( West. Can down to SLC ) It is definitely barren ..I-15 thru Delta UT. to Ely..Stayed over @ the Border Inn @ Stateline before touring Baker NV. & all thru the park for a few days.. Lehman Cave is amazing to check out ( not as busy crowded like Carlsbad or Mammoth (Ky) caves are ( smaller ) but just as scenic.. Wheeler Peak is beautiful to see as such a prominent peak way out in the high desert.. have to get back there soon. Very uncrowded ( spring / May was there) plus not too scorching hot yet for hiking / day trips..

I never made it up to the peak. I had to decide between the peak or the Johnson Lake loop trail with the old mining ghost town (my other video on this park). Hopefully someday I have a chance to go back there as well

Cool video, thanks for sharing. Do you need high boots for this hike? Are there bear and mountain lions there?

thanks! I would say no boots are required unless you go in the winter. But you will have to do a lot of boulder hopping to get to the glacier so boots could protects your ankles. There are mountain lions in this national park but I don't think there are any bears
