Years ago, my girlfriend and I used to hike the Sierras just above Lone Pine... a lot. After several days in the mountains, we'd stop in Lone Pine in a small motel (looks like it's changed from those days) for much needed showers, or a good soak in a hot bath, and a nap before the drive back to L.A. In those days, sadly, there wasn't that great museum shown in this video, but the country Michael showed is truly magnificent and it was wonderful to see even a little bit of it again. It was many years and many memories ago, and I still love it. Thank you, Michael!

10:03 You get a thumbs up for locating the exact spot where Russel Crowe is on horseback. Enduring the travel time, the dirt roads, high temperatures has certainly paid off. As long as you are so close, the ghost town of Bodie California is certainly worth the visit especially when viewing the cemetery with its vintage headstones. There is also good food in nearby Bishop. Burnet Falls State park is roughly 4.5 hours, 435 miles north of where you are now. Reno Nevada is about the halfway point.

I always say that every artifact has a “guest log” for its entire history. When you visit that artifact your name is added to the log. According the log of the road from the gladiator movie, you, for a moment in time, are there. This applies to any artifact any where in the world

That is my home town! Lone Pine! They have been filming movies there since the silent era. My granny was a stand in in a silent film. My uncle was an extra in Gunga Din. I have home movies of my mom with the cast of Bonanza. They still film all the time. I remember seeing Mt Whitney in the background in the theater when we saw Gladiator. They have a film festival up there every year! I saw John Wayne when I was a kid filming a commercial there in the Alabama Hills in the late 70’s.

This is a beautiful yet little seen corner of California. I had an inkling that a lot of old Westerns were filmed there, because on a road trip to Yosemite with my dad back in the '80s, he told us that. Who knew that a scene from Gladiator was filmed there? Nowadays, it seems production companies film in foreign countries like Morocco or Tunisia for the tax breaks and labor cost savings. I thought that was the case for Gladiator. I knew that Tremors was filmed in the area because I researched it. My wife and I want to go see Death Valley (in the winter when it's not 130 degrees). I've always wanted to go there, just to say I have. I want to go to the lowest point in North America and do some stargazing. Maybe a future Grimm Life adventure to Death Valley?

Love this! ‘Gladiator’ is such a good movie. I never knew where they filmed it. I also love that you paid a bit of homage to Sisters of Mercy and the Mission with the clip from ‘Wasteland.’ It’s my favorite song by them. I’ve never seen them perform live but a guy I dated grew up with Wayne. He introduced me to their great music! Keep up the great videos! I got a bit behind, so I’ve been binge-watching the channel a bit this weekend! 👏

I liked all Tremor movies , but the first one was the best . Michael Gross and Reba MacIntyre were so awesome together . Kevin Bacon was just the icing on the cake . Where were the Clint Eastwood spaghetti westerns filmed ? Those were my favourites ! Clint Eastwood was such a hunk back then lol . And a mysterious man . My other favourite western is actually Cowboys and Aliens . Was that filmed around Lone Pine ? Maybe do a western theme week where the characters are mysterious , or out of this world lol . Just a suggestion .
