Decided to buy a ticket during your review - other reviews I’d seen were less positive but everyone seems united on Denzel’s performance

Denzel was more menacing than in Training Day and American Gangster together.

@Struggle I am glad the movie was wellshot and well done and fun. I NEVER had the expectation of being as good as the first as its a classic top 100 film of all time. Fun films have their place in cinema too

I really enjoyed this movie and thought it was a more than worthy follow-up to Gladiator. Loved the action and spectacle and Denzel was on some GOT type shit throughout this movie and it was amazing lol.

I know Macrinus was supposed to be the villain but he was right. Rome had to go, after what it had did to him and so many others. When he spoke to Lucia and told her they had met before and she probably wouldn't remember. He meant that he was her father's slave and treated them like furniture. So I was with him the whole time.

Denzel Washington awesome performance in the movie

I liked, didn't love the movie as a whole (the dialogue, CGI and plot were a bit underwhelming). But Denzel stole every damn scene he was in. His small remark about killing Lucilla was "politics" and his placing the head of Geta on the pedestal was just so damn good.

I’ve watched Gladiator 2 last Saturday it was soooo fucking goood 🔥🔥🔥but it didn’t beat the first classic film!!! But overall great movie, Paul Mescal did an incredible job in his performance as Lucious and of course the legend Denzel Washington, he was magnificent in his performance as the manipulative Macrinus!!! It was soooo good seeing him as a villain again. Pedro Pascal great actor and great performance, I’m so pissed they killed him off!! Connie Nielsen she’s an amazing actress and I was shook that she was killed at the end!!! Shoutout to Ridley Scott great director👏👏👏👏

The Gladiator movies diverged allot from real history but the sequel more so. Denzel Washington’s character Macrinus was a real historical figure and unlike in the movie he actually reigned for 12 months as emperor, he wasn’t a lanista (owner of gladiators) or a former slave but he was actually a native North African. The Jugurthine War and the annexation of the kingdom of Numidia happened during the republic not the third century empire.

So glad I watched your video as I may have missed out on a great experience at the IMAX theatre (which was packed). Denzel was more evil than I thought and I absolutely loved Paul.

While Gladiator 2 isn't a terrible movie compared to others. The main issue for me was: We have been here before. We've done this before and achieved the same victory 20 years ago. Gladiator 2 is just Gladiator 1 re-told. Its like an expensive promo on why you should watch the first one. A man is sold into slavery. Becomes a Gladiator. He's revealed to be more than he is. Characters threat over him. Others rally to him. Politicians conspire and plot. Main character has to stay alive while planning a Coup d'état. Ends with Rome being delivered into the hands of the people... again. Until Gladiator 3 I guess haha Not a terrible movie compared to others but its the latest example on how Hollywood is seeing how far they can use nostalgia to push mediocrity. The biggest issue being it undoes the efforts, sacrifices and victories of Maximus. It all lead nowhere. Rome was given to the people and taken back by tyrants in no time. Just so Lucious could be the one. The took Maximus story and gave it Lucious. They did Maximus the same way they did Luke Skywalker. Undid his efforts so a new character could be the one. Ahh well. Victory has been achieved(again) and all is right(again)... Until we get Gladiator 3 haha Gladiator 3: ''Mere weeks after Lucious took up the crown. He is assassinated. Rome is in turmoil exc...'' ..and round and round we go.

Yeah. I haven’t seen the movie yet, but I’m not gonna let the criticisms deteriorate me from watching it. Unlike others, I could care less about spoilers because it doesn’t matter to me (unless it’s a movie that I really don’t want spoiled), but still I would go see it. As for your point on the politicians plotting, they’ve been doing it forever in Rome’s history. They did it with Julius Caesar and got him assassinated. They did it with Roman Emperors too (for example, Caligula, Commodus, Vitellius). All of which, which were god - awful emperors. Even though they never were involved in the assassination of Domitian, they still were happy that he died, like melting his statues and so on to try to erase his name from history (yeah look how good that turned out). If I’m being honest, Rome basically self - destruct themselves in the long run. They kept choosing horrible emperors and pretty much caused their own collapse (although there were more factors that played into that).

I loved the first movie. 3 hours long, but you would be sitting on the edge of your seat!!! I haven't seen the 2nd movie yet, but love the cast so far!!

Denzel made the rest of the cast look bad. Also too many callbacks and none of the speeches moved me. But was entertaining

Good movie. Not exactly what I thought it would be, but I enjoyed it overall. If I had a criticism, I would say that it felt like Spartacus light. 6 out 10 for me...good not special.

Gladiator 2 isn't as much of a disaster as I thought It was going to be. But to say it was amazing, I can't agree. People compare it to the first excessively, but to be fair, it is a sequel story wise and it does play on nostalgia A LOT. The duo of emperors written as cartoonish Joker tyrants, Pedro Pascal character could have had more impact, the lead actor actually gave his best you felt it, but was written to be too reliant on his connexion/similarity to Maximus and not as a stand alone character and Denzel's acting made his scenes the MOST entertaining but I wish the conclusion to that character was more satisfying for all the moves he makes ( they changed the history completely cause in RL, Macrinus actually becomes The Emperor, how cool would that be as a twist here xD). I'm a biologist + history nerd & kinda disappointed at the sharks thing, Like they did have arenas with water battles back then historians say, with ships and all ( WOW just WOW think about it!! ) but sharks? Absolutely not lol, crocodiles and hippos were used. Also people that worked in the movie said that it was rushed as hell but the director was demanding "just get it done" I mean not cool.... So yeah, it definitely had moments but sadly not much. ( it's just my opinion don't come at me please xD )
