@gladyslin You asked the viewers what is best to do with the apartment. In my opinion it is wise from an economic point of view to renovate/refurbish and furnish it, then rent it out for a certain period of time. For example, if you know in advance that you will have visitors from Uganda, then you can move in there with your visitors, and when they are gone back home , than you put it up for rent again. Than save that money you get from the rent, to then buy another apartment and rent it out. Now that Jayden is still so young, and your husband is away a lot for his work, it is wise that you will continue to live with your Mother-in-law, you can still use her help well, until Jayden has to go to school, then you will need less help. By then you will speak fluent Chinese and understand everything very well, and you will be able to communicate optimally, and that will give you a lot of independence and you will be able to go your own way optimally. Who knows, take up a hobby or learn the written language because you will need that to help Jay at home with schoolwork and reading, because your husband will not have time for that, because of his work. This is pro-active thinking.

Aaw, this is such a sweet gift from your husband. Congratulations on your new home. It is beautifully and I can’t wait to see how you furnish and decorate it. I think for the kitchen, you can speak to your husband to have a carpenter come in and design something with you. The sink might be too sharp for Jay as he is transitioning into the curious age of toddlerhood. Also remember to baby proof any sharp edges of things. And for the tall cupboards you can get a discreet stool/ladder to reach the items you place there.

The apt will be in their son's name, so she will not ever get any monies from it if she decides to leave China or him. Why isn't it in her husband or both of them names if they will be living together. Shady situation, but if Gladys accepts this decision, it's her life... GOODLUCK!

It is sad that some people are projecting their negativity on Gladys and her family. Gladys currently lives with her mother-in-law and husband. In my culture, the wife lives with the husband’s family for at least the first year of marriage, before they build/buy their own home. So what I see here is NOT giving separation vibes at all. Every married woman wants to be mistress of her own home. Rather than being negative, be happy for this new chapter in the Lin’s family life. Once again, her husband works in a different city from where the family lives and we have seen him visit his family when he gets time. This is normal - work hard while you’re still young so you can pay of mortgage etc, while young then live well with your family. The apartment is in their son’s name because Gladys does not have permanent residence in China. If they so choose, once she gets permanent residence they can transfer the house to her name. But in any case, they love and trust each other so no need to do that.
