GLAMOROUS theatre images. My EDITING workflow

In this video I walk you through an entire LIGHTROOM workflow of an THEATRE photo to create a beautiful and glamorous, Hollywood-style image of a singer and three feather wearing dancers. Working with a local theatre school for their graduation show, I attempt to create a timeless image that the school can use in its promotional material.
The image was taken with Fuji X-T3, XF 18-55mm at 36mm, iso 6,400, 1/250th, f3.6.
I show how you can use the following basic editing tools to really make a image STAND OUT.
White balance, Dodging and Burning, Selective editing using radical and linear filters, Intersecting radial filters with colour selection, Vignetting, Spot removal tool.

Hi Robert. Many thanks. I'm really pleased that you've found this one useful. I'm delighted that it might help you as you get into working with your theatre company. Two things (as I'm sitting here trying to clone out audience heads out of hundreds of performance images) - 1) try to make sure you can get to dress rehearsals where you can move around freely and have no obstacles (people) in the way. 2) I'm not sure what gear you have, but if you can get at least one large aperture prime lens that will serve you well. I have been getting some great shots with a Viltrox 56mm f1.4. I am shooting with two cameras; one with a mid-range zoom and the other with either the 56mm or a 35mm prime (I'm shooting with a crop sensor so these are full frame equivalent of 85mm and 50mm). I'd love to see your work. Best, Keith

Hi there - I'd delighted that it was a useful video to you. If you're just starting out shooting in theatre, enjoy and shoot as often and as much as possible. If I can give you one piece of advice. Shoot RAW (if you can), shoot balanced exposure and under-expose by around 1 stop. That should give you lots of opportunity in post-production to make great final images. Have fun. Best, Keith

Nice video ! I think another tip for those who don't like the noise would be to tweak the "masking" slider within sharpening so that the luminance noise/grain is not getting sharpened. Having said that, if going for a filmic look you can always leave some grain in the image, and Fuji grain does tend to be quite filmic

Hi again, Dingbat. Yes, this is a good idea. My only concern would be to remember to reset after the show as the next day I will probably shooting in a different set of conditions (landscape perhaps). Cheers, Keith
