I grabbed one of these about 8 months ago and did the usual setup and fret polish as well and I was pleasantly surprised by how decent the pickups sound. They're not spectacular, but they aren't garbage either. Plus I love the chunky vintage neck profile - like a baseball bat - which should help with stability in the long run. The weight is the best thing about it, IMO, since I like to noodle about while I'm watching YT on the TV.

Nice! Any clue what the fretboard radius is? I can't find any info on Glarry's website.

I got the red with graphic.gret looking guitar.Replaced cheap nut with bone ,true oiled neck,replaced cheap strings,and replaced lifeguard and controls with a humbucker loaded pickguard.the neck pocket was wrong had to shim to get action low enough.polished frets and board.tightened tuners and now it stays in tune and plays like butter.All in 80 bucks.i really enjoy nodding these cheap guitars.i now have two glarrys.both took about the same work to make good guitars

I got a chinese special on ebay.....probably made at the same factory....redid the whole thing. Replaced pickups, nut, tuners (grover 305's I had sitting around), blocked off tremelo. Leveled frets, changed pots. Added two dpdt switches for the hot stack humbuckers I added in neck and bridge....put a better single coil in middle. (aliexpress.com for 6.00 each...got humbucker, single coil N, single coil S with DPDT switches) Cost me about 30.00. It plays better then a 4k Gibson. Those necks suck but if they're kept in air conditioning should be okay. flat sawn...definately none of it is quarter sawn. The grain could pop off at anytime it wishes. The pick ups are usually as weak as a man with cancer unless you add distortion or a good boost. If you block off the tremelo it will hold tune a lot better.

If you set all the strings to 4/64 hight @ 17th fret, you maintain the radius correctly. Then you can find buzzy frets to fix. I know the original strings are crap so putting lemon oil on them doesn't matter but you should remove strings and clean and oil the fingerboard. Then, install new clean strings. Oil on strings will kill them, just like buildup from fingers on them over time. The nut looked like it was cut to high cuz the strings over 1st fret were high.

For a proper set up, the first thing you do is level the frets and set your nut to the proper height. On any of these cheap, Chinese made guitars, I'd suggest replacing the nut with a Graphtech Tusq, replacing any string trees with roller types and replacing the tuners with a set of quality locking tuners.
@GetawaysandGuitars3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, normally I would level, crown and polish the frets, like in most of my other videos but I wanted to do a simple setup video that anyone could follows and do without tools or wanting to mess anything up. Say they had bought one like this that was unplayable, this makes it a far better player than it was ;0)

Great video! I just bought the same guitar and it arrived yesterday. I’m left handed but bought the right handed as they only have one left handed electric 6 string guitar and it’s the ugly strange shaped metal type guitar. I’m more of a blues player. I’m very happy with the guitar but the amp I got with it is not usable. I have reversed the nut, readjusted the bridge and put Ernie ball super slinky as they were the closest gauge I could find to the strings Jimi Hendrix used on his reversed guitars.

Thanks for the video. Any idea what the neck pocket size, or neck radius is on these? It's hard to believe for as much modding that people are doing to these, there seems to be little info on the specs.
@GetawaysandGuitars4 жыл бұрын
55mm pocket size and its a 12" radius, pretty flat like a Les Paul but it should take any Strat sized replacement neck. ;0)

should the 6 screws (that go into the wood) on the tremolo be all the way down?
@GetawaysandGuitars4 жыл бұрын
If they are screwed right down the trem won't be able to pivot. So if you don't want a tremolo do it and screw the springs in the back tight too.
@taskmaster834 жыл бұрын
thinking of buying one and doing my own setup. never attempted to check intonation before tho. i play acoustic only. what do you all think.
@GetawaysandGuitars4 жыл бұрын
Give it a go mate! £60 is a decent meal out for 2. Just take a hour and set it up nicely, coming from an acoustic playing this will be a doddle ;0)

I’m not sure why some folks put the tremolo springs in that “W” shape configuration, why not keep them straight for even tension on the bridge block?
