Glarry sent me their GST Tiger Stripe Super Strat model to check out. With the holidays around the corner, there's a huge appeal to getting a guitar AND an amp for $129.99 (at time of filming), especially for a beginner. But I want to know what it would be like to play this guitar as a beginner would - RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX! We are going to find out if the Glarry GST Electric HH Pickup Tiger Stripe Guitar is a great deal, or if it's a hunk of junk.

Great playing, man! Off-subject, I know, but I was encouraged to see how, on your picking hand, you allow your middle, ring, and pinky fingers to sort of hang freely as your thumb and index do the picking strokes. Seems like so many players keep those middle, ring, and pinky fingers curled under and pressing into the palm of the hand. The great flatpicker Molly Tuttle comes to mind. But I've never been able to get the knack for holding my pick like she does. Obviously your way works quite well !!

That's always felt more comfortable for me. Keeping my fingers curled made them hit the strings too much, granted I'm definitely and aggressive picker. Will have to check out Molly Tuttle - never heard of her!

@@NickPerezMusicThat's okay, Nick! Molly is relatively new on the scene (probably seven years ago), and is such a nice person too! I'm not really into the Bluegrass flatpicking stuff, honestly, but it's fun to watch her get after it. Seems like she came to prominence about the same time as Billy Strings, who is mind-bogglingly good.

I have this one in blue. Needed some TLC. Shimmed the neck, filed a couple fret ends, put on some better strings, adjust the action(truss and saddles), wedged the trem to make it a hardtail, and re-intonated it. I love it.

I agree! Glarry's are perfect for the modification-level player thats looking to set up something to jam with your preferences. Ive done a couple of them (tele and strat). I love the PRS look of this model, so im gonna get this too. I suggest polishing frets, change nut to bone, copper shield your pots, intonate, and get your play height worked out without dead spots. Then, these things ROCK!

I totally agree with using the Glarry guitars to learn/practice upgrades that you wouldn't want to risk doing on more expensive guitars (until you're more experienced). I'm looking into Monoprice & Glarry guitars specifically for this purpose. Yeah, that Glarry amp didn't sound very good at all, which is typical of most amps that come with beginner's guitar kits. Although I have to admit the small Fender Frontman amp that came with my kid's Squier Affinity Strat package was actually pretty decent. Nice review & demo, and awesome playing! 👍🎸

Never heard of monoprice, do they do models other than strats lol? Those frontman amps can hold their own, especially if you use a distortion pedal in front of it!

I have the blue GST-E, and put not quite 100 into it. Bought new tuners, Dragonfire Screamers, went with #10 strings, using my Peavey rage 158. It'll handle anything i can play. I have access to an empty factory/warehouse to play in, couple days a week, so it gets a workout.

Hi Tiffany! There’s a lot of factors that go into how a guitar sounds, the biggest factor being the skill set of the person playing the guitar. In terms of the actual sounds you hear in the demo, I’m using my own amp modeling and not the amp that came with the guitar. If you watch the full video you’ll see a segment where I demonstrate the amp that Glarry bundled with the guitar. Hope this info helps!

What do you think the best trem replacement would be? I really want a Floyd rose type model but I know it’s prob not gonna fit the arm is so still and the action is terrible on mine even after adjustments

Hey Aaryn! I haven't begun any mods on this guitar yet, so I have no idea what the measurements for that bridge pocket are. I did just put a Wilkinson tremolo on a Squier bullet body, and with locking tuners it stays in tune perfectly! But the thing with replacing the tremolo is to make sure it fits the body route, on these import models look for a tremolo that has a 35 mm block. Hope this helps!

Glarry guitars aren't really for beginners because of all the setup work they need (they do literally no setup at the factory), but they make excellent mod platforms for someone that has at least some knowledge of setup. I have 4 Glarry guitars and modded the crap out of all of them. With the model in this video, I'd go with the blue and throw in some different pickups, like humbucker sized P90s.

Agreed, I originally wanted the blue but they were out of stock if I remember correctly, but it does look pretty! P90s would be a cool mod, especially in a supper strat. Debating what I'm gonna do electronics wise, but I'm definitely finishing that neck, it's too raw for my taste
