The Newton train, Pollokshields West was my stop. From 1980ish to 1986 I'd have been that schoolkid in uniform waiting for the board to change - tho' I still remember the old boards and ticket booths.

It wasn't. It was choked up with car fumes and cigarette smoke, along with the diesel trains.

0:57 - 1:47: Vehicles from both of those 303s survive in preservation. The two driving cars of 303032 (the lead unit) and the center car of 303023 (the rear unit and by the time of withdrawal in 2002, one of 4 units to receive Carmine & Cream colors) form a hybrid unit which is located at the Bo'ness and Kinneil Railway awaiting restoration.

I reckon Glasgow started to lose its old character in the late 1980s to early 90s. It used to have a unique character which was gritty, grimey and fascinating. My dad used to take me to Glasgow by train when I was a kid in the 1970s and Central station just like the rest of the city was something to behold. I can't help noticing how colourful the passengers clothes were in the 1980s compared to now when most people seem to were black. Strange but true.

When glasgow Central had decent traffic to spot at..To think these 303s are over 25 years old in 1988 known as the Glasgow Blue trains..And 15 years later they were withdrawn.

at 2.49 who are the ppl on the track?
@laurenceegan61364 жыл бұрын
Fiona they are either track maintenance workers, or drivers. The track layout just beyond the station is very complex, and maintenence workers can often be seen there. But my guess is that they are drivers. Electric locomotives which were used for mainline services to England were often stabled at a point on the left-hand side of the shot just over the bridge in that era. Track maintenance workers can be seen in action elsewhere in the video (between 07:34 - 08:09 for example.) Edit: I've taken a screenshot and zoomed in on it, and it seems like a woman with a young boy? If so, I have no idea! (S)he IS wearing a hi-vis jacket, but there is no footpath across the bridge.

Depending on what month it was I was almost or had just turned 6. We hadn't long moved to Dalry, North Ayrshire. This was 8 years before the disability discrimination act came in so there were no wheelchairs and you didn't talk about such things. We used to come up to Glasgow on the train a lot, to visit my grandmother. She lived in Toryglen at the time, and my mother didn't drive yet so if my 'Dad' couldn't bring us in the car, we would get the train to central and then walk to St Enoch's bus terminus to get the 12.

Also..I dont think this is 1988 as the 303s have High intensity lights on them. Possibly 1991 i Think.

True also there are no unrefurbished 303s appearing so this most likely after 1990...

Agree this isn't 1988, as 156513, in SPTE livery, didn't enter service until late 1989.

I remember the timetable boards in the windows where the bar is now. I used to waste all my money on a Casey Jones burger and overpriced chocolate from the vending machine before I even got on the train to the seaside.
