I came from Florence Street and left in 1967 and moved to Hutcheston Town Court until I got Married in 1974 I'm still in Glasgow up at Crookston now, but I'll always be a Gorbals Guy. 😊

As a Student at the then Nautical College - Gorbals in 1997 was my first exp of Glasgow. The Kwiksave near the postoffice and Jimmys Curry near the Brazen Head. The Celtic Fans around the place. No mobiles ! the small clydesdale bank around the bridge. Just Fun times. I hope to return and visit soon.

My Grandaddy lived in The Gorbals before he emigrated to The States - In the posh part i think - He used to throw pennies out the window of his big car to the poor kids - Just imagining it brings a tear to my eye

The way I look at it is if I was fleeing death in my own country which wasn't my fault in the first place then I would hope to be accepted graciously in another country where the Govt has agreed to settle us. History does repeat itself and hopefully your descendants will be far more tolerant of other nationalities. Here in NZ we are used to opening our doors to many ethnic groups and the diversity has far more positives than negatives. Hard working people establishing their own businesses with children out-performing in schools. And why...because they know how hard it is to make it in this racist world.

Yes thats so true - same with shops as you seldom see anyone sweeping the fron of shop doorways - I have even seen cafes put out theit little tables and chairs on top of a whole load of trash rather than sweep it up first - Its the "its not my job" mindset@@BillyBobDingo1971
