I always find myself coming back to this cover. For me, it has superseded the original. When I think of Heat Waves, I think of this. It hits differently, in a softer, more soulful way. It brings the lost, almost mournful feelings of a long past summer love. The melancholy emotion pairs with the beautiful voice work in a way that just blasts me with nostalgia despite the song not being all that old. It achieves that uncanny effect of making me miss something I've never had.

I'm just a layman. Probably because English and Japanese have distinct rhythm and flow and phonetics. For example, iambic pentameter, weak and strong forms, stress emphasis and so on in English. While Japanese have way less clustered consonants and some words are distinguished with pitch. edit: pitch instead of tones.
