I understand this song so much it's uncomfortable. Its completely embarrassing, but when you're this depressed, nothing matters at all. Not your hygiene, not your surroundings, not the people you're with. Literally nothing. I've ACTUALLY used a stale cookie on my old nightstand as a coaster for a McDonald's coke when there was no room left. It's so mortifying seeing someone else go through it. After losing interest in everything for this long, you lose your personality, you lose your ability to focus. It literally ruins you and your relationships with other people. I wish more people understood that this isn't just laziness. The inability to leave the nostalgic TV, "cookie as a coaster", chain smoking marijuana and yes, eating gross things because you lack the motivation to get up and cook or find anything, really, it's all a sign of heavy depression. I pray for the people who are currently how I was when I was growing up. It's fucking hard and embarrassing living like this song describes.

Last summer for me was an endless chain of depression and nobody was home ever to the point of me straight up not showering for a week on end and not eating at all. It weighs you down. It almost caused an eating disorder and it’s so uncomfortable to talk to someone about it because saying “I don’t eat or shower” sounds lazy.

I think I found a newfound appreciation to this song! I think looking at it from 2 different perspectives is a really good way to interoperate just how upsetting this song really is. On one hand you can look at it from the perspective of the guy in the relationship who sees the apathy/ laziness his girlfriend has and just wishes she would change. But on the other hand you can look at the song from the girl's perspective and it becomes so much clearer that she's aware of her "laziness", but is so affected by her depression that she literally can't reason to really do anything. A lot of these lyrics fit both sides really well, and it really solidified this as being one of my all time favourite songs!

This song hits so close to home as someone who has Depression and PMDD. Not having the time or the energy to care about hygiene, school, relationships. Your family watching you waste away and you push them away because you don’t feel like you deserve the “pity”. I remember coming Home to my depression room completely cleaned by one of my family members and crying because of the gratitude.
