Janusz was in the Hot Shop with Dante Marioni and John Kiley just after Season 1 of Blown Away, March 2020.

those are cork paddles

You are correct. Here in the Northwest some artists are using wood paddles to flatten stuff as one would normally use cork. I checked with Dante and they are indeed cork.
