I think finding/traveling to the lunar island is fun, and once your're there mining the glass is easier than gathering living logs, so might as well. Using the same exact weapons/food/strategies all the time can get boring so I prefer to mix things up even if the alternatives aren't the most efficient.

"Boats are slow" Have you heard of a driftwood oar? With it I got to lunar island in 4 minutes. Also glass cutter is much easier to get than a dark sword cuz you don't need to go on a manhunt for living logs and gems. All you need is green caps to lower enlightenment and a pickaxe or two and cooked cacti to get sanity once you leave the lunar island Edit: Sanity is not the only pro of the cutter against fuelweaver because it has double durability while fighting him making it better than hambat and thulecite club so sugon deez nuts

I known I am super late to the party; however, I think this debate is not as easy as “dark sword good, glass cutter bad”, both have their ups and downs. For one glasses cutters are super cheap to craft and don’t rely on combat, unlike the dark sword to craft. Yet, dark sword can be crafted anytime and nightmare fuel is common as heck. So if lunar island is close to base , or you have Woodie grab some, then you get glasses cutter but otherwise dark swords.

The only situation where I could see it somewhat being useful is while fighting nightmare creatures/fuelweaver while you are playing as Wigfrid. One of her songs increases weapon durability by 25% as long as her meter is filled but then again.......You could just use the song with the dark sword/Thulicite club too.... Maybe it could be useful down in the ruins if you don't have that much nightmare fuel/living logs for dark swords? idk

I legitimately have like 3 stacks of glass cuz' of the caves area, just made a summer base in the lunacy cave area and every earthquake there's like 10 glass and 10 stone fruit, 2-4 flint, 6-8 rocks sometimes a nitre, mole, gem or gold, but mainly it's glass that falls in the lunacy area and the stone fruit

The glass cutter is a good weapon because in a single trip you can craft around 10-20 glass cutters which are better than dark swords for farming nightmare fuel (for shadow swords or life giving charms) and for the battle against Ancient Fuelweaber are better than Dark Swords because of his durability

I really prefer the "basic loot" (hambat + football helmet) over the "fancy loot" (ancient/magic items). Thulecite crown and club are indeed powerful, but I don't see any creature that is worth killing it with them. I mean, if you're gonna kite, 80% damage reduction from helmet is enough. If not, tanking with the ancient loot is a waste imo. And about weapon, again, imo, the hambat's infinit durability outclasses everything (except blowdart, playing as Wicker in a world with reed trap setpiece). I have a bunch of loot from ruins, and never use it lol. Maybe I should stop thinking it's a waste using the loot I get from the ruins, cuz I always can get more; this thought of mine makes no sense haha. PS: Not saying wich one is better, or wich one "you should use", I really dislike this approach since DST is a sandbox game where u can do whatever u want. Just have fun =) PS²: When I say i don't use fancy loot, I'm not considering bone armor, this one i use, 100% damage reduction is great

Step 1: Every year on your megabase world spend a few minutes mining glass in the new lunar biome in the caves. Step 2: Have boards because you aren't an idiot and can farm logs with Maxwell, bearger, woodie, Warly, ect. Step 3: Go to the lunar island to grab kelp fronds. Make the crafting station bc you may as well, it's not hard. Step 4: Make 600 Glass Cutters and bundle them up on your boat. Step 5: You have the best weapon for insanity, Fuelweaver and half the enemies in the ruins. Gg. L

it'd be pretty neat if you could orb the tools since lunar grotto allows you to get a bunch of glass without ye olde boat trek but it'd also be pretty neat if they were statted more aggressively for the work that goes into unlocking/creating them in general or prototype them (even if you temporarily 'forgot' if not high sanity), or chuck them into a bombed spring to give them amplified damage vs shadows that degrades over time.. theoretically not rocket science to make things worthwhile to do, but the design in this game is all over the place (also wiki a bit herp sometimes, def needs more quality edits)
