Matt, you operate like I do. If I try to plan the piece, I get frustrated, overthink and often overwork my copper ( or whatever I am using). My best creations are utterly on the fly. My motto is: "planning interferes with my process". Some of us just have a high RQ (randomosity quotient)!

I'm so excited to start making these as well! :) They look so beautiful. I've already started to beg my friends to save their colored glass bottles or broken glassware for me if they ever come across any. I don't drink beer, wine or soda...fast forward a couple of weeks...me rummaging through all my neighbors' recycling bins! ;) HaHa

I got the microwave kiln several years ago, they were the new “hot” thing. I got several molds that would work in the kiln as well and at local hoppy stores or hardware stores, they have supplies that are for stained glass/ glass blowing and they work for the kiln too. I used something called frisket (sp?) to hold the pieces together. I also had to upgrade to a 900 watt microwave.

Matt You have Inspired me . I hadn’t even heard of a microwave kiln before I have ordered one and I’m anxious for it to arrive . How about putting the top to the kiln on after u put it in the microwave so you can see if the glass is where you want it .

That sounds like a good idea but the fit is so tight that it's hard to see it clearly enough to get the lid on without possibly bumping the bottom even more and shaking things. Make sure you buy the kiln paper to go with your kiln.

If you do a lot of this, get a big bag of play sand at Lowes....way cheaper than buying tiny bags at the dollar store......I just looked at their website....50 pound bag is $4.40.

The glass would look lovely as they are in a pendent once sanded around the edges,and wire wrapped, would look cool I think great to have a smashing time!!!,, I used to own a 3 barrel tumbler at on time, can make alot of noise, so I put it in a cardboard box with a hole at the side for the mains lead, can take quite a while as you may know you have corse med and fine grit, then the polishing power, would love to try out the glass melting one that looks awesome have fun👍

looks like if the bottom of the vase is clear then it is painted rather then all the way through. I have green bottles that had oil in them. Just another way to get coloured glass. If you could I would use rain water. Remember tap water may have added chemicals. Maybe filter the tap water. Cant wait to see the results.

And sea glass would have been in salt water. Matt- Have you tried making the glass pieces into a circle before microwaving? Easier said than done, but at least not having pieces projecting out of your stack of glass?

Interesting it takes me 4 weeks per run. 7 days per stage unless you have some super rough stones then i add 3 days on the first 2 stages. Im curious about the 6 week timeline. Try putting the little anvil inside the Tupperware and shake till glass gets fine.

You should not let kiln cool down in microwave ... take it out and put it on a ceramic tile or something like that to cool.

Matt, it says not to use a microwave that you cook your food in. (after more online research) that the burn off from my microwave kiln might add itself to my food since I was using the same microwave for both.

Hi, can you please tell me what silver clay is used for. I’m intrigued! Thanks. I’d love to now how all these people get stuff sent to them for free ! I could start a million crafts. If only we had this sort of thing when I was young. My life is coming near its end. So I’ll never have a chance to do all of these crafts.😪 bye now. Kat

@@katrinasheen3406 Most use it for jewelry. Think oven dried clay, but you fire it and it's a silver metal. So it's easy to mold and work with to create what you want.

@@o2962 The title of the video I saw where he said take the kiln out of the microwave to cool is - Learn how to melt glass to create jewelry on Make It Artsy with Joe Rotella. I've also watched Capt Mike and Susan McGarry, she mainly uses a traditional kiln, but I think she has a lot of creative/inspirational ideas. As far as where to get one probably just do a google search. I don't have one yet...YET, lol.

Bummer! Coated glass is no good! You can go to Hobby Lobby and get real stained glass sheets for cheap! Sometimes you can also get some stained glass chips from tile stores. Sounds strange, I know. However, they use stained glass tiles for bathrooms and backsplashes all the time and occasionally they come across broken pieces that they cant sell and will toss them in a box somewhere

so how do the fuse together being different COE's
@MattsCrazyArt
@MattsCrazyArt 3 жыл бұрын
different COEs doesn't stop them from fusing. It only makes weak spots that makes it susceptible to breaking at aome point. But that seems to be a bigger deap with large glass items like vases or soap dishes. Someone said small items like jewelry pieces shouldn't have any problem.

@@MattsCrazyArt so ive been thinking about your sea glass.. maybe u need so salt in the mix besides sand, and shells.. does the firing process take them back to shiny, or leave them with a Matte finish. I have a sand blaster mainly for taking the shine off the glass. then a fire schedule that keeps them with a matte finish

OK, so, I'm one of those obnoxious people who has to have precise language. I can't help myself, I was a teacher. That is NOT corrugated cardboard. Corrugated cardboard is corrugated, or ridged...it is the cardboard that moving (and other) boxes are made of. That cardboard is molded, and basically made from paper mache'. OK, that out of the way... this was way cool...now I have to get one of those microwave kilns...to add to my other 5952 crafting tools. (I already have 3 rock tumblers.)
@MattsCrazyArt
@MattsCrazyArt 4 жыл бұрын
Absolutely, corrogation refers to the zigzag pattern inside each sheet where thinner paper is folded in tiny waves between two other sheets of paper with a lot of adhesive and hardener. I simply went with the first word to pop into my head and figured no one would notice.
