A briliant cover. Gordon would appreciate Glass Tiger's version which is perfect in every way. I loved it!

Glass Tiger and Gordon Lightfoot and Natalie MacMaster! What an unbeatable Canadian Classic mix! This is such a gorgeous cover! The original is still in a league of its own, but this cover creates a whole new league for this beauty to occupy all by itself, as well. I must say, Canadian music has always been my favourite music on the planet.

The most beautiful love song ever written. As a young man I wished to find a girl who filled the longing this song brought me. Fifty years have now passed in a life of seventy years, I never found her and know I never will. Once, briefly, I was certain she was in my life but it didn’t last. Still I am thankful for her and our fleeting time together. I sincerely hope you find a person who the thoughts of brings you warmth on a deep and lonely winter’s night. If you are young please don’t settle for less, please keep your heart open and let love find them. They are searching for you as you are them.

With Gordon Lightfoot’s passing this week, I was looking for “Song for a Winter’s Night” because it’s one of my all-time favourite songs. I stumbled across video - what a fantastic cover!! I love Glass Tiger but had no idea they had recorded this. With Gordon Lightfoot’s passing this week, it’s a poignant reminder of the impact he had on music in Canada (and beyond!). Thanks to Glass Tiger for this amazing rendition of a Canadian classic. Love Alan Frew’s poem at the end - a perfect ending.

I love Gorgon Lightfoot throughout my whole life. Ironically, I live among the Great Lakes. I was satisfied hearing Gordon died among family members. I know his daughters adore him, so I was not sad, but happy. You mentioned this as being one of your all time favorites. Me too. THIS and Urge For Going written by Joni Mitchell.

Are you kidding me? I mean - ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I love this group and have loved them since their early days in Vancouver. That they have stuck together all these years and have evolved into this precious and spiritual uplifting supergroup makes me so very happy. Dam they do such a good job and the singer is at his peak. The camera work is superb and that violinist is exceptional. All in all perfection.

"That violinist" is Natalie McMaster - who has been Canadian Champion many times - and has countless albums of her own out there - and has played behind some pretty remarkable people. She is not exactly unknown.

I have been a Gordon Lightfoot fan for over 40 years, all of my adult life. His songs are always so well crafted and sung, almost perfection; it's hard to image any way to improve one. Beautifully arranged, performed, filmed; loved the tempo, awesome vocals! This is the first time I have ever heard a cover of his that I think I liked better. What a gem. Leaves you wanting more...

I shamelessly, but honestly admit: I didn't even know this was a cover, sorry. A bit embarrassing but this is how artists help artists in a weird twist of fate, no? I've heard Gordon Lightfoot but obviously I've forgotten or just have missed out - so here I go now, to GL to see/hear as I now wonder what else I may have missed, so thank you for what might have been an obvious comment, but an educational one for me. I hope this finds you safe, well and having a Happy & Merry Christmas. 🎄 🍪🥛(🐅) Fan, Leota

i beg to differ. This IS truly wonderful, but i would put Sarah Mclachlan's version of this song on an equal footing. The two are very different takes on one of Gordy's best songs, but personally i prefer Sarah's: it's more tender and reflective, and i ADORE the evocative vocal harmonies!!

found this in other cover's comments . The lamp is burnin' low upon my table top The snow is softly fallin' The air is still in the silence of my room I hear your voice softly callin' If I could only have you near To breathe a sigh or two I would be happy just to hold the hands I love On this winter's night with you The smoke is rising in the shadows overhead My glass is almost empty I read again between the lines upon each page The words of love you sent me If I could know within my heart That you were lonely too I would be happy just to hold the hands I love On this winter's night with you The fire is dying now, my lamp is growing dim The shades of night are liftin' The mornin' light steals across my windowpane Where webs of snow are driftin' If I could only have you near To breathe a sigh or two I would be happy just to hold the hands I love On this winter's night with you And to be once again with with you Songwriters: Gordon Lightfoot
