Gerald, I remember seeing a sign when I was young that said the same thing. Word of mouth advertising we call it. If you like somebody's product, let others know. It's a simple concept that helps their business grow. Thanks for the recommendation.

I think so, it builds long term loyalty. We inform each other about our experiences instead of some slick media campaign . On the business side, they get the feed back they need to serve us better. A win, win, for everyone! Thank you Jeff!

Gerald have you ever accidentally looked at the arc without protection?

Yes several times, it’s not the end of the world . Depends on how long you look at it and whether it’s at night or in the daylight. Night makes the effect worse in general. Also people with light colored eyes get an arc flash quicker than brown eyed people etc. That’s why welders usually wear a pair of glasses with a number 1-3 tint ( safety etc) when you’re working around other welders. Even clear glasses help some. Welding rays produce ultraviolet light just like the sun. So when you stare to long at the rays your eyes actually get like a sun burn, similar to your normal skin. At first they will feel a little irritated or like you have a little sand or grit in them. Then they’ll get redder and start watering up, your noise will start snorting up like you have cold etc. If you’re driving against the sunlight your experience will be very similar to driving home from the optometrist after your eyes have been dilated . In general your eyes will make a new layer of cells in about 24 hours depending on how bad you burned them. The cure is really to close your eye lids and go to sleep. The problem is they hurt. If you go to a doctor they are going to give you a tiny bottle of medicine called ponacaine. You’ll put one or two drops in each eye. It will sting at first , then your eyes will be totally numb for about 6-8 hrs allowing you to get some sleep and heal up. If your not supper bad or you can’t get to doctor, there is a home remedy. You can grate up some Irish potatoes until you get some juice. That juice is a boric acid, that when applied to each eye will bring some relief as well. Or you can just put an ice pack over your eyes and or in combination with the potato juice drops. Hope this helps! Ty

@Gerald W. Brister, Welder + Instructor + Patriot Mr. Gerald -- I have looked at those glasses several times and noticed you wear the light purple or smokey gray lens from what I see and I was curious if there is a certain color requested for better viewing during sunny\cloudy days when under a hood? Always liked the smoked gray color but was never sure if the caused an issue with glare on a sunny day.

My lens are made to transision from clear indoors to a # 2 gray outdoors. I use to use # 3 gray but found that too dark now that I’m older. I have used the burgundy before. It makes the world look a little prettier, like (Rose colored world) 🥹😎 It’s all a matter of preference. For years optometrist would recommend gray. Thank you!

Years ago optometrist recommended gray lens for the best view so I wore them. I don’t think it’s a make or break Issue. I have worn burgundy and liked that as well. It kind of gives the world that proverbial (ROSE COLORED) look. Kind of a slight mood enhancement effect etc. Ty!
