“Tanaka-kun is always listless” is like the comedic version of what you’re recommending, as it’s about the lazy life of Tanaka and how he tries to get lazier (and somewhat fails). It’s super simple and I love it, I would recommend to anyone looking for a calming, yet still pretty funny, anime (like Barakamon but less artist-breakdowns).

Mestayoku Technically it is, but in actuality it is just “Haven’t you heard? I’m Sakamoto” with flaws.

Fruits Basket, on the other hand, doesn't make you forget your problems but it makes you face them in a healthy way. It gives the courage to try to become a better person. I personally relate A LOT to these two shows (as someone who is currently working in the outdoor industry and as someone with a creative mind respectively)! Shows I would certainly add is: *A Place Further than the Universe* - never have I given a show 10/10 so early during its run, I was hooked on it from the get-go and had completely forgotten about the real world all the way until the very end ... which was immediately followed with a severe case of withdrawal. *My Roommate is a Cat* - it has similar themes to Barakamon and is a very wholesome show from start-to-finish, especially with the relationship between the character Subaru and the stray cat he befriends Haru. *Sweetness and Lightning* - for obvious reasons. *Usagi Drop (anime)* - say what you will about the manga's timeskip, the content that was covered in the anime was masterful.

A couple of months before I did get a job (my first job), I decided to watch Fruits Basket (it having been on my to-watch list for a while because I'm a transformation fan and the concept interested me). I binged the whole show over a month (I think 1 episode a day usually) and I really got emotionally invested with Toru and the other characters' situations. The comedy and mostly comforting atmosphere really appealed to me as well and the opening song's lyrics (I watched the dub) helped to calm me down and make each day more bearable for me whilst I was watching trying to find a job. I haven't seen the remake (I might do in a few years once it's finished) but I would recommend the original Fruits Basket to anyone who's going through a tough time.

Mentioning GTO, my favorite anime, and Barakamon, not far behind, in a single video... Best birthday gift I could've asked for.

my two therapeutic go-to shows are: 1) Escaflowne, which is a show about a girl who is so depressed or disconnected from the world that she is swept up in her own story. The music and the scenery is good enough to take you to another world, and the blu ray release is astounding! 2) Welcome to NHK. Complete opposite end of the spectrum. NHK is about someone who just can't face the world, but keeps being confronted with it. I find the main character to be somewhat relate-able as his coping mechanisms are not often constructive or anything to take pride in, and yet he keeps finding ways to keep moving, or at the very least keep existing when everything seems hard and pointless. Certainly not for everyone, and at times a bit on the nose about being a show about getting through depression. But for me has been a faithful standby on those days where I just wish the world would go away. I havent even heard of any of the shows on this list... looks like I have a few things to find now.

Space Brothers is one of my fav animes. That's the type of anime which never leaves you.

I'd add My Roomate is a Cat - there are some harsh scenes from Haru's (the cat) POV, but watching Subaru progress from where he is at the beginning of the show to where he is at the end through what he does for Haru (and what Haru does for him) is heartwarming.

Laid Back Camp is a very special show for me (if you couldn't tell by my icon!). It started airing around the time a member of my immediate family was hospitalized for some pretty severe issues and I have very vivid memories of coming home from the hospital that first day, climbing into bed and just looping the first handful of episodes that were available at the time, over and over, because they never failed to soothe me. It's no exaggeration to say that the show was a huge part of what helped me cope and get through that part of my life and I'm forever grateful to it for that.

For me, whenever life gets me down, I always turned to shows that made me laugh. One of those shows was Great Teacher Onizuka. I absolutely loved Onizuka's antics and loved hearing his life lessons along with his students. One might say that I felt like I was his student.

Cannot agree more with Laid Back Camp. Literally the most chill show I've ever watched, never felt so comfortable in my life while watching anime. A close second however, would be Flying Witch. Very similar vibes.

GTO...❤️ I wish more people remembered it. Though I’m not sure if it was widely known or not. It’s hard to tell back in the 90s. Onizuka was the best virgin ever! Also, the intros and altro songs were so catchy! And his voice acting was soo entertaining!

The video title seems like a generic clickbait. But your voice and speech creates an honest and personal tone, that's much appreciated.

Also, while a lot darker in some ways, Welcome to the NHK would make a great anime to lift your spirits. There's oodles of characters with it "Worse off", and its very well done.
