That's a beauty, I remember my friend's identical model/color Glastron "back in the day" so many years ago

Had the identical same colored hull. Powered with a 135 Merc. Sold it when I bought a center pod Skater 18. The guy who bought my GT ripped off my two mermaid fenders I had planned to keep for my Skater. His name was Rodney..., hope he sees this post. I still miss them girls from 1986...lol Nice boat, glad you're enjoying it.

Thanks! I've seen 54 mph on my GPS. I ended up putting a different lower unit on the motor as the one that came with it was in tough shape. I think it has a different gear ration as it spins a 24 pitch Mercury Laser prop and easily hits 6k on the tach. Yes, it likes to chine walk and is very sensitive to trim. I grew up with a boat identical to this so I've logged a lot of time in these things. Great boat!

Fantastic work man! I have two cv16's and a GT150 that I'm about to restore. One of the cv16's is ready to use but still needs paint and a little body work. I wanted to see that I could get it structurally sound before really putting any cosmetic work into it. She's solid though. Loved seeing your videos. I can't wait to teach my kids to drive and be safe on the water in my boats.

Awesome. Just like I experienced while growing up...see my comment below from two years ago.

Just got mine back getting the floor replaced. Every bit as bad as your video. Were you able to just add a coat of clearcoat to the metal flake or did you start over? Were you able to find a deck logo for it somewhere? It was my dad's boat and he bought it instead of taking my Mom to Hawaii for their 25th anniversary. Didn't go well. And it sits on a Shoremaster dock and lift of course

I miss my 1973 GT150 we put a mercury 150hp on it that motor was the first yr for the 150 at the time largest stock hp motor. Out of crate with power trim $1300.00

Nice! Boat looks great! I had a brown and gold one growing up (my first boat at 13, dad was cool). He first put a 60hp Evinrude on it. Even with that, it would top out at nearly 50mph perfectly trimmed with just my skinny teen self (if the speedo was accurate, this was long before consumer GPS). A couple of years later we put a 90 Evinrude on the back so we could get two slalom skiers out of the hole. With that it would not top out much more, around 55mph according to the speedo. It was actually a little slower out of the hole initially compared to the 60 in lighter loads due to the increased weight of the 90. But once over the hump it was fine. It appears the 60hp was really the best thrust/weight ratio for this boat if you didn't need to haul two people out of the water on slalom and the boat wasn't fully loaded with people. The 90 more than made up for that difference otherwise, but it sucked a lot more gas. I do not remember the prop pitches we had, but I'd love to know the weight difference between a more modern 90hp Merc and an old 1980s 90-140hp V4 OMC outboard. One thing I hated about this boat though was a wicked roll while in a turn. The left or right side would roll violently and bank like an aircraft if turned sharp if the trim was neutral or above like when towing through a slalom course and turning around. Apparently it was a bad hull design and way too much air got under it. I see below you mention the nasty high speed chime walk as well, and I also found with experience it was manageable. I would not let others drive it fast and aggressive for just that reason though. I also remember a hull leak in the back where the clam seal started separating the top and bottom half of the boat where the side bumper guard was. In any event, thanks for the video and memories, I enjoyed it! Love to find another one actually or even a Carlson CVX-17 that I got a couple of years later. Most are trashed by now.

Nfarce 4 years later but the 60 wouldn’t push the GT150 50mph. Your speedo was way off. Depending on what model the 60 was (a2 cylinder or 3) maybe the mid to high 30’s.

Nice GT150!! Wondering what sort of top end you see with that 90 Merc? I have a 79 GT-150 with a 2000 Johnson.115. I have seen 54 mph as measured by GPS not the boat's speedometer. Anything above 51 mph and I begin to see a wicked chine walk. I can get a few more mph past that with careful use of the trim. The best performing props I've found are plain old standard stainless props, not Rakers or any other bow lifting props. This hull design does not seem to like too much trim or bow lift, otherwise the dreaded 'chine walk' monster rears it's head.
