BOATS CROSS THE MOST DANGEROUS INLET IN FLORIDA !! | Boats at Haulover Inlet
Haulover Inlet is the most dangerous inlet in Florida and yet it has the most boat traffic of any inlet in the United States. At any given moment, the waves will get the best of unsavvy captains and send them home with a few learned lessons.

I mean I would but he's a pontoon captain... at least he didn't have a motor on the back worth 4-5 times the cost of the pontoon. Whenever I see that I always consider it a waste of a good motor on a poorly designed hull. Edit: u know what I changed my mind this man gets props just for not being one of those people.

I don't think it's the twinness per say but having a shallower bottom which twins have. Longer speed boat types with shallow bottoms, if they don't go fast, seem to do ok. Not a boater at all. Just making a casual observation.

Your second reason is wrong for two reasons: 1) Twin Hull is a brand of catamaran based in Bridgeport Connecticut. Freeman is a brand of catamaran based in Summerville South Carolina. They are called catamarans. Not twin hull boats. Twin Hull is a brand. 2) Catamarans are not everything. All though they do ride smoother and go faster than monohull boats they do not make you a better boater. You still need experience to use them. They could have stuffed the bow of that Freeman or put it on the rocks just as easily as a monohull if they fucked up somehow.

@@dawolyan13 Not really most all modern boats have foam filled hills and literally cannot sink unless they break up and even then they still float because of the foam. The exception obviously is aluminum hulled boats or self built... but most fiberglass boats have the foam.

Norwegian here, the trick to reduce slamming like many of these boats do, or soften the slamming as much as possible, is to tilt the outboard engine a little up, so the force of the outboard engine will force the bow up. For what you want to do in this type of sea and always want to do, is hit the wave with the underside of the boat and not with the bow, only seagoing trawlers want to do that. by tilting up the engine up: - lifting the bow up from 8 knots and up. - the pressure from the engine will dampen the fall, when the bow is eventually coming down - The boat will go much lighter in the water and more surf on it. (good for straighte course speed) - all wave will be taken by the boats underside and not by the bow. by tilting the engine down: - the engine will force the hull down and keep it more connected with the water. - more control at speed. - will slam hard in waves, due to the engine will always trying to push the bow down.

Actually you want the bow down to reduce slamming. If you hit the wave with the underside of the boat you'll slam the hardest. If you catch the wave with the bow first(typically the deepest V part of the boat) the wave will be dispersed. It will be a wetter ride for sure and the lower your bow is the more you risk stuffing.

That pontoon driver knew his stuff! He's probably the world's greatest toon captain in the world! There's a fine line between riding the waves verses crashing into the waves. I used to ride in the 25-30 foot hurricane waves. Only 2 of us out there we saw the coast guard waiting on us to get in and warned we should have gotten arrested. We said ok and left. But i enjoy watching these a lot.

I am a good swimmer, raised on the shore of Sea, my boys are not bad either. However, once we were crossing the inlet of Beauford NC, with old captain riding the boat probably 20 times a day with 10 passengers on the board. I was thinking if in between of his coughs, hands could not handle the wheel properly...trying to figure out: how fast we will be under the water inside that upsidedown metal cage, and how in the world I will be able to pull my kids out, then up from under the water with that speed of current, both at the same time... No chance...And there was a lot of folks with kids in the strollers. No safety vests as well. I was praying in tears both ways to keep that old man hands strong. Wow 2:19 he corrected his mistake by reversing the engine quickly and riding the wave to avoid his bow or front of boat from going down. That engine is the key to driving these vessels no matter what kind or type. That guy was smart in controlling it properly. He could have shaken those passengers up like everyone else. Unfortunately he still took in a little bit of water, but better that than a hard spank down on the belly of the boat and your butt and back hurts for a good week after that.
