LOL at the all comments of people saying that Lea Michelle has the better voice. The truth is that Amber Riley and Lea Michelle have very different voices, BUT Amber's voice is the better voice. Let me explain. Lea Michelle's voice was built for Broadway. She is not ever going to have a career as a pop singer. Whereas, Amber Riley's voice could easily be on the radio singing pop music like Adele or Beyonce or more old fashion R&B, like Jennifer Hudson. She has pipes. Lea's voice just doesn't transfer to pop well. Now on the other end, can Amber's voice crossover to Broadway. Easily. There are tons of Broadway shows that need a vocalist like her. If The Wiz Live is any indication, Amber Riley can pull it off. Her acting on it was endearing and comical as well. She could make a run on Broadway and kill. The problem is that there aren't many roles for women like her there (Black, full figure) and if they are there, they usually aren't the lead. Amber has the more versatile voice, because in the end, if you have the pipes, soul, and the control she does (and yes, she delivers controlled vocals), your voice will never go out of style and it will always be welcomed everywhere. Soulful music will never go out of style and will blend easily into other styles.

I was just re-watching Glee episodes and of course I came along a lot of "who's really the best singer, Rachel or Mercedes" moments and I started to really thing about it and concluded that while Lea and Ambers voices are both spectacular, amazing, and beautiful, Amber can sing the same notes and vocal style as Lea but Lea cant sing the notes and vocal style as Amber. I know Lea was the main character so of course she got most of the solos, just wish Amber could have gotten more solos as well.

I really hate how Mercedes'/Amber's didn't get as many solos as she deserved, like I think the producers knew her voice were better and more unique than Rachel's/Lea's because every time they had a Diva off they never told us who won, and it was pretty obvious Lea was RM's favorite..... Like yeah, Lea's voice is amazing but it's made for Broadway, one thing I will say is when she would sing songs she would deliver the emotions and made sure you feel it, Amber would too but she knew how to control it and how to change her voice for every song, like Opera, Soulful, Broadway, Fun, Emotional, Pop, R&B.... While Lea can make a fun song like So Emotional into a Broadway one(listen closely) but she does deliver the high notes, I will say she kinda had Amber beat in that field in the earlier seasons(1-2), Yeah Amber can belt it out, but there were a few times where it was overpowered by Lea, but that's doesn't mean Lea is awful she is Amazing she is just overrated, like she was on Broadway at age 8, her voice was trained, I don't recall Amber saying she took vocal lessons ...... I love Lea and Naya(another Rachel) but they are kinda overrated singers, while Amber and Jenna(another Mercedes) are underrated singers

Mercedes and Santana were one of the most smashing combinations on GLEE. Always wished the show had featured more duets with singers (other than Finchel) than they did. The ladies compliment each other so well and bring out each others' fierceness- especially on the choruses of RDMH. It's fun to see them almost seducing each other- let alone the rest of us.

Mercedes (Amber Riley) was the best singer in the entire group. Second to her, was Santana followed closely by Rachel. The executive producer, for whatever reason, chose the character, Rachel to sing solos. Not because the singer possessed superior talent but because the actress who portrayed the character was one he preferred over all others. Simple! It all boils down to biases that the executive producer and unfortunately the audience harbored towards certain members of the cast.

Incorrect. The TV show is about Rachel. Argue as much as you want, she's the focus of the show. That's why they followed Rachel to New York and not Mercedes to LA. The show is about an arrogant high school girl who joins a Glee club and then finds herself connecting to her club while going on her journey towards her Broadway dreams. Rachel has always been the main character, so she gets most of the solos. Her getting too many solos is constantly one of the conflicts in the show, so it also adds to the plot.

ColdHearted Writter The show actually wasn't intended to be about Rachel... Ryan Murphy met Lea after most of the casting and story was already written, then wrote in Rachel specifically for her. If I remember correctly, Quinn was supposed to be the main character.

Another thing they did wrong with this show was that they didn't feature the band members in any story lines. Like, it would be nice to see them mix with the singers or have scenes with rehearsals. OR Fox had, like, webisodes of them walking through the halls discussing their roles in Glee Club or getting slushied. Same with Jacob, they shoulda made his website real with vlogs.
