And nobody ever seemed to recognize Blaine’s mental issues, not even Kurt, who was always too concerned about himself to really see his boyfriend and his problems - so Dave has been probably the first person who ever made Blaine feel seen, and understood, and backed. I feel like Dave fell for Blaine, and Blaine felt gratitude and affection for Dave, and misunderstood those feelings for love. It’s completely understandable.
