It bothers me how some people say "It was obvious" because it doesn't, what you wear, like, doesn't define your sexuality. Kurt has his personality and being gay is just a part of who he is, his personality and his tastes are another part of him. You can have his personality and not being gay like you can be gay and having other tastes you know. I feel like before the coming out Mercedes was the only one being right, she didn't make any conclusion just seeing which clothes he was wearing or what music he liked.

Sanatana was traditionally the bitchy mean girl Quinn was the perfect popular girl Brittany was the dumb blonde Artie was the disabled kid Puck was the stud or bad boy Mercedes was the loud black girl Rachel was the annoying theatre kid Finn was the it boy Tina was the emo girl Mike was the perfectionist Asian Sue was the bad teacher everyone hated Shue was the good teacher everyone loved Emma was the neat freak And Kurt was the stereotypical gay kid Everyone started out as a stereotype and slowly the show showed they are more then the category we the viewers and everyone in the highschool put them in.

I think I was 15 when this aired, and although I (as most people) knew Kurt was gay, this was the first time I had ever watched a character so young coming out, and the beginning of a journey to one amazing boy that became my role model.

I remember watching this for the first time in the seventh grade. Before this, every time the word "gay" was used, it was with the same negativity as "slut", so seeing this scene put me into a sort of moral shock. I mean, homosexuality being an OK thing was a completely outrageous and novel concept to me at the time. Eventually, my mom banned me from watching this because she didn't like how sexual it was. It would be three years before my outward position on gay-ness would change (inwardly i still hate being gay--fucking sucks), but this planted the metaphorical seed.

I was 5th grade when ppl started watching glee and the first thing I ever saw of it was the single ladies episode and I was SOOOO uncomfortable. Then come 7th-8th grade when I watched it properly. Glee taught me so much about acceptance and the storyline up to season 2 and a bit of season 3 was great. Though I stopped watching by the end of season 4 because it just wasn't the same anymore, Glee will always have a special place in my heart. It made me who I am today so thank you so much Glee. This scene hurts me because Kurt reminds me of when I was 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 and in the closet. Just in my early twenties I truly came out (to friends and people in school), at 18 I only came out virtually, on social medias to strangers. Not all my family knows. But I post things on my Instagram' stories not caring a bit. Maybe in my thirties I will come out fully.

Well, be careful. I do not recommend coming out to strangers online. They could out or harass you, perhaps for others to see online. As for your family, I'll level with you and admit there _is_ a possibility they'll be pathetic about it, like Santana's grandma. I would only come out to the ones you fully trust. Honestly Kurt was one of the bravest characters in the show, coming out as gay in high-school and enduring all the bullying and tormenting, standing up against his bullies, defending another gay man in New York which resulted to him getting beaten up and left in an alley, confessing his love to Blaine even though he may have still been with someone else ("there's no one else") he went through so much but still came out on top
