I wasn’t trans when I first watched the Unique catfish subplot, but I am now. And both times I was sympathetic towards her, because I knew that being queer in any form *sucked*, especially when navigating romance. And when I came out as trans my uncomfortable experiences wirh dating only got worse. Personally I never felt like it was bad enough to catfish, but I'm also conventionally attractive and white. I understood, especially watching with hindsight, why Unique did what she did. It makes sense. HOWEVER, I took issue with the implication this had. Because narratives about trans people being liars who secrelty want to get in your pants, ESPECIALLY TRANS WOMEN, is a real smear campaign that has existed for a long time. I always took issue with the fact that Glee decided to make the trans woman the one who lied to another character and strung him along for multiple episodes while this kind of narrative was and is being used to jusitfy legistlating trans people out of existence in the US. It was another one of those moments for me where Glee was clearly *trying* to do good social commentary and representation, but completely blundered in execution and implication. I've never liked this plotline and really want to do like an autopsy report on it or something. It's validating that this sentiment is shared.

God I forgot half of these plots (it's been years since I've rewatched Glee past the first three seasons) and you're so right, it's so BUSY

I appreciate you watching despite that. And honestly, you don’t have to watch the show. I love the show but I can’t recommend it in good faith lol
