I think that was the point of the episode. Will does not know shit about Spanish current songs and does not speak Spanish well, even though he is a Spanish teacher... he never wanted to be Spanish teacher, he never improved. I am not American. I had (Castilian) Spanish just for two years as my third foreign language. We had wonderful teacher who actually spent a lot time in Spain. We talked about royal family, Spanish cuisine, recent Spanish songs etc... But there were language teachers who could barely speak the language, and did not know shit about its country. Is Will the one to blame? Is it educational system who let him teach a language which he barely speaks? It's easy to say that this episode was full of cringe and stereotypes... but it was meant to be this way.

Why she didn’t choose Thalia, Belinda, Belanova, Paulina Rubio, La 5a Estación, Yuridia, Julieta Venegas, Daniela Romo, Jesse y Joy, Gloria Trevi or some song by a girl from RBD

Yes, it is true(and stupid) that we primarily teach European Spanish in our schools despite the vast majority of spanish speaking Americans being Latin Americans. Fact is tho, a large percentage if our population speaks spanish as their primary language and saying that they don't know the difference is ignorant.

David Sandoval ok i didn’t need the examples list cuz i can picture it myself. im honestly not one to look so much into how glee was written since its such a ridiculous show and i don’t think its ever that deep (the writers clearly didn’t take the show seriously so why should we?). the comment i wrote is what came to mind seeing what yall were saying (i didn’t even pick up on it myself no matter how many times ive watched this episode) and i honestly can’t explain santanas song, i guess madonna is popular and the show was actually first targeted towards white people not knowing hispanic would show discomfort? idk but yeah you are right they should have picked a different song.

I know A LOT of people don’t like this episode but I actually really enjoyed it! I think this storyline did a really good job at showing Will trying really hard to get better at Spanish but going about it in all the wrong ways. And Santana speech about wanting a higher standard for her education was spot on! I know most people don’t like it because of the songs but I think that was kind of the point... they didn’t represent Spanish culture well because Will and the rest of the glee club don’t know or understand Spanish culture! I don’t know, I think it was very well done even if it didn’t have amazing songs

This is one of my favorite episodes. Santana said something so true “they don’t know any better”. U.S citizens don’t even understand that America is a continent, no just the country and that’s because nobody explained it at school. The programs didn’t explain that. People believe Mexico is the only country in Latin America when actually Mexico belong to North America. These stereotypes are so stupid and have been perpetrated for centuries. They think Spain is part of Latin America. We need to get more educated about other cultures.

It might’ve been a copywrite thing, some artists didn’t want their music on Glee. Like Coldplay, they didn’t allow their music on the show for a while until it got really popular. But I also think it was a plot point. Like Santana said they don’t know any better, so the Glee club didn’t think of or know those artists

I actually didn’t like this episode when I first saw it. The songs in Spanish that they choose were not even that popular in the 2000. The “Bamboleo” song is as stereotypical as “La cucaracha”. Why they didn’t just put some Caifanes, Hombres G, Luis Fonci or Intocable if they wanted to go more ranchero. And if they were going to put the tribal boots a meme itself back at Mexico, then put the song “inténtalo”. Ricky Martini couldn’t even save the episode for me.

All I really know of Spanish culture is from what I've read about the people involved with Carlos Saura's dance film version of 'Carmen' - the director Carlso Saura, the main cast dancers Antonio Hades, Laura del Sol, Christina Hoyos, guitarist Paco de Lucia, the work the've done outside this film and some fo the people they've worked with, including Antonio Gades's teacher and discoverer Pilar Lopez and the dancer he guest starred in the film I really want to see the whole of 'Los Tarantos' Carmen Amaya. In the film they take the music from the French Opera (though the opera 'Carmen' is set in Spain they all sing in French and I'm pretty sure the man who wrote the novella that inspired it was also French) and actually try to make it sound more Spanish, something they can actually dance flamenco to. If you've never heard of these people or this film, check it out, it's amazing. Antonio Hades was one of the most famous dancers of last century, and Keith Richards (of the Rolling Stones) once said about Paco de Lucia "People think I'm a great guitarist. They have no idea. There are only three great guitarists in the world, and Paco de Lucia puts them all to shame." Otherwise the only other thing I know are the Pedro Almondovar films I've seen.

This is by far considered the worst glee episode so far. There's some stuff you have to got through in later season that's pretty bad but for me this was so bad. Im not Spanish, im Latin american but even i could tell all those songs were extremely outdated, its so clear this was written by americans with no prior research, only the santana's song was very popular and beloved by spanish people, but the rest was so tone deaf 💀 And yes, the actor of blaine (darren criss) had to do a 3 week Broadway show i believe so he couldn't film, so he's gone for like 3 episodes.

Also writing an episode about ignorance towards spanish culture by doing ignorant performances and maybe one good song at the end ehhh very stupid choice but also a reflection of their time, glee does not age well. Also also, the story involved around a white man, it should have been santana as the lead of the story same as it should have been with her coming out story or ricky. Heck Ricky never came back 💀 glee always wanted their cake and eat it too.

stream doom patrol every friday on dc universe i think they had something good there tho. every performance was bad and santana’s clapback to mr shue applies to all of them, none of them knew until that moment that what they were doing was offensive. i think they did well focusing the story on the white man who was oblivious to his own stupid behavior. santana was the twist (if it was her storyline then it wouldn’t be the same), she felt personally offended by it and every word of her speech was impactful, it wouldn’t have been the same if they had done it any other way i believe.

It is probably just Sue becoming aware of her biological clock- that it is basically now or never. Once Sue goes through menopause, she can't have kids. It is not like with men who can father kids in their 70's. The only lead up that I can think of is Sue having a mother-like role with the girl who reminds her of her sister.
