I got assigned to sing Santana’s solo in the song during our competition, and as I was singing it, I realized that I needed to take Florence’s advice. I wasn’t even ME anymore, my whole life was about this guy who strung me along and treated me like garbage. The scene & song means a lot to me for this reason ❤️ I’m 21 years old now, and I’m moving in with a boy who treats me like magic. Things get better, everyone. Don’t forget.

I fell out of love with Glee around season 4 because the show didn't feel like it used to in the beginning, but this doesn't mean that I stopped listening to the songs from the show. Even though "I broke up" with Glee around 2014, there was one song I kept listening to this day, and that song is "Shake it out". I may be biased because Florence Welch is my favourite singer, but there was something about this rendition that made me love it even more than the original song. There's just so much emotion behind it, and maybe it's the context of it in the show, but I just can't listen to it without getting emotional, more so these days. Naya Rivera was a great actress and an amazing singer, her voice one of the most beautiful in the show and I wish that we were given the chance to witness her talent more. I hope that, wherever she is now, she knows how much she meant for closeted people and for people like me, who learned to be more confident by watching her. You are loved Naya, rest in peace.

LYRICS ~~~💓💓💓 Regrets collect like old friends Here to relive your darkest moments I can see no way, I can see no way And all of the ghouls come out to play Every demon wants his pound of flesh But I like to keep some things to myself I like to keep my issues drawn It's always darkest before the dawn And I've been a fool and I've been blind I can never leave the past behind I can see no way, I can see no way I'm always dragging that horse around Our love is past, you're such a mournful sound Tonight I'm gonna bury that horse in the ground So I like to keep my issues drawn But it's always darkest before the dawn Shake it out, shake it out Shake it out, shake it out, oh Shake it out, shake it out Shake it out, shake it out, oh And it's hard to dance with the devil on your back So shake him off, oh And it's hard to dance with the devil on your back And given half a chance, would I take any of it back It's a fine romance, but it's left me so undone It's always darkest before the dawn Looking for heaven, found the devil in me Looking for heaven, found the devil in me But what the hell, I'm going to let it happen to me Shake it out, shake it out Shake it out, shake it out, oh Shake it out, shake it out Shake it out, shake it out, oh And it's hard to dance with the devil on your back So shake him off, oh Shake it off Shake it out, shake it out Shake it out, shake it out, oh Shake it out, shake it out Shake it out, shake it out, oh And it's hard to dance with the devil on your back So shake him off, oh Shake it out, shake it out Shake it out, shake it out, oh Shake it out, shake it out Shake it out, shake it out

I remember watching this all those years ago…. As I was living this hell. This song became my refuge. After 10 years I finally gathered the strength to leave with our 4 kids. I blasted this song as I went to file my protective order. Thinking of this show…. Nearly 5 years later I still have unimaginable trauma…. But I’m free.

One of the best covers. Love how they slowed the song down. Makes the songs more meaningful.
