They wouldn’t shut up about this episode during the Super Bowl which also aired on Fox. Glee was airing right after. So I stuck around, and watched my very first episode of Glee. After all, it was THRILLER! I didn’t understand why they sang Thriller along with Heads Will Roll, a song which I never heard of. Damned if it didn’t work though! That night, I learned what a mash up was and instantly became fan of the show. Edit: Ok, so discovering what a Mash-Up was didn’t make me an instant fan. It had all to do with my shock at watching an episode of Glee! I mean, what the heck was I watching?! Sue Sylvester was super politically incorrect and I loved it! The singing was outstanding as was the choreography! I didn’t know any of the characters, but damned if I wasn’t rooting for them by the end of the episode. Besides, Glee kept me current on music and slang. 🤷🏼‍♀️😆

This is not far from reality actually. I've run a Glee club for two years now. Students know there's a Glee Club. They don't hate it but they don't love it either. It's like they acknowledge it's existence but nothing else lol I often have friends from kids in the Glee club during rehearsals because they are waiting for their friends and they mostly get bored and end up leaving the room. But when the Glee club have their music performances and especially the annual musical, the other students go and enjoy every number. They clap enthusiastic but they never cross the line to approach them and say "You were great" or "Wish I joined the Glee club". The ones who congratulate are the Glee kids' friends. And I often receive more feedback than them and it's very weird because my club knows what the school thinks of their performance 'cause I told them after a very informal survey that I do at least twice a month lol

I honestly used to be so mad at Karofsky for pulling all the things he pulled throughout the first few seasons and then just being allowed to jump in whenever he wanted, but you gotta admit that his smile when he realizes that he would be cheered on if he did the number, and being welcomed with open arms and dancing with such a huge smile is so adorable. I honestly love the Glee Club's unspoken "no questions asked" when people come back even after fights. It's sweet. I don't fully get it but it definitely shows a sense of family. I love that Karofsky grew so much and I adore his smile in this video

I don't know if his character was already designed to be a closeted gay at the time, but the fact Karofsky really wanted to participate of this, but he refrained from it, looking from afar, out of fear of being associated with the weird/gay vibes of the Glee Club, basically sums his life. It's very sad. He was cast as an extra that just had to slushie Finn once, but made more appearances until he evolved into one of the most interesting characters. I wish we had seen more of his journey instead of so many couple issues and random filler characters that come and go. I remember reading an interview with the actor, he even took singing lessons, but he regrets he never got the chance. What a missed oportunity.

Here's what I could never figure out about Glee. When the gang would sing and perform and dance so wonderfully, all the student body would cheer and (somewhat) dance along. These "kids" were obviously so talented and made people feel good when they were performing. So why were they portrayed as misfits and get slushies thrown at them all the time? Why did their peers love them during performances but have disdain for them the rest of the time? Doesn't make sense.

I've run a glee club for 2 years now and something similar happens. The difference is that these TV show exaggerated their students feelings towards glee club. I don't think the rest of the school hate the Glee Club but they don't love it either. They acknowledge its existence but they enjoy their performances. And nothing else. And I think that has a lot of sense because they think that glee club kids are just the same as them so idolizing them as pop stars feels lame. So they have this attitude like "you're great, I enjoy every one of your performances but I'm not joining the Glee Club and I'm not going to be starting a fans club for you" LOL.
