Actually I kinda sympthize with Rachel in this. I think it was her insecurities from high school that drove her into hating santana. She was constantly bullied by Santana in highschool saying deragatory things against her but Rachel's only inspiration to keep moving is her broadway dream. And she was entirely nice to Santana when she suddenly came to new york but all of a sudden she wants to go against Rachel and prove she's inferior by being an understudy of of Rachel's lifelong dream of being Fanny. She could have atleast talk to Rachele bec even Santana knew Rachel will perceive this the other way bec Santana was never really interested in broadway in the first place and she was actually insecure that Rachel's getting stardom and is a feature on the magazine in which she was a back up and that's where it all started

I hated Rachel in this arc. Why make such a drama for Santana being her remplacement? Most of the characters including santana are like that, at least rachel KNOWS she is like that and doesnt try to hide it plus no offense to the actress who plays santana but santana doesnt have wide a range of voice as lea michele does, rachel can sing at almost opera level and has a made for theatre, santana is more r&b and is made for pop like everyone else, plus rachel works hard and knows what she wants in life, she deserves the role of funny girl, santana was just a cheerleader before joining glee club, and in the real world of show business slacking and being fickle is what can make you or break you, rachel has been a triple threat since she was a baby

god rachel is such a brat. it's so easy to tell that she was an only child and was raised like one. i don't understand why the other people competing with rachel for the spot of fanny didn't get the part of understudy and some random audition where anybody could go to, could become the understudy for such a big broadway role. like it does not make sense at all. santana is one of my favorite characters and i love her singing but there's no way she was the only good one during the auditions, if there was such big competition for the role. rachel worked hard for that role and santana just came in and became the understudy. the way rachel handled it was so petty and mature. like she slapped santana, although she was provoking her, she just packed all her things and walked out, and she shitted on there whole long time friendship. like there was so much build up and development to their newly developed friendship, it was so unnecessary to have this feud even if lea and naya were feuding off screen. the feud just destroyed all their friendship developement and they shouldn't have wrote it in, even if it went with the concept of the episode. i believe santana getting understudy should've never been written into the show but the show treated rachel like such an angel. she should've been happy for santana at most, but santana knew what she was doing auditioning for the understudy. broadway was rachel's dream and it could've been santana's dream too but in a different way.

Rachel. If you had a close friend, who came up and tried to take some thing from you that you worked so hard for and dreamt of for years, wouldn’t you be upset? I mean seriously think about this if someone that was supposed to be your friend , betrayed you over something that wasn’t even important to them, it proves it was out of spite. Would a friend audition for understudy to your role without mentioning it to you, and then (more importantly !) tell you she is better, that you are ugly and awful and she's going to take the role from you ???? sorry not sorry. when friends truely support you, they dont try to steal away you stardum and your moment in the sun, and they certainly are not trying to take your place and shine at your spot. Santana was mean, disgusting, and pretty much a bitch, in and out of highschool, and if I was in Rachel's shoes I wouldnt want someone like that in my life, let alone in my apartment. all the comments here are so disconnected from reality its insane, but frankly, if you were in Rachel's shoes you would have been hurt and upset as well. and if Santana was a mature and a grown person way more than Rachel, she would have told here before, and not totally surprised her on the audition. and let's not forget that Santana never wanted to star in Broadway, especially not in funny girl, her dream was to just get famous somehow, so it is her jelousy of Rachel's position and stardum that made her go after the part, rather than actually the part.
