Glen Grant, interestingly, did a 5yo. It was all over Italy the first couple times I visited. Actually a very nice pour for what it was, but yeah, not much of a finish. =)

Independent Glen Grant bourbon barrels that are 20+ years old and cask strength can be magic. They are around and the price can be reasonable as it's not a distillery people are chasing. Cheers Jon

Those pours must've lasted through the weekend! Always more in the heel than expected 😊 Haven't had either, but both sound good to me. Nice to share a really good whisky now and then, without getting into the minutiae. You're right, there are times when the conversation is just so much more important. Cheers Jon! 🥃🥃 Marian 🇨🇦

Quite like & enjoy the Glent Grant 12. The only Glenlivet that I'm familiar with is their 15 French Oak. Based on this video, I'm more curious about Glen Grant 18 now. Thanks, Jon & cheers to the weekend 🥃 🍏 🥃

Great side by side. Had some of the Glenlivet 18 early in my whisky journey and enjoyed it. I have not tried anything from Glen Grant but sounds like something I’d enjoy. Will have to seek some out. Cheers to the weekend sir.

Hello Jon! I just came back from South Korea last night. I had The Glenlivet 18 (43% ABV old version) with my friend, and it was perfect, so I agree with your comment that the Glenlivet 18 is a good whisky which does not become the dominant focus when you just want to have a relaxing good time with your family and friends. I just picked up a bottle of Bowmore 18 Deep and Complex. I will share this with you so we can compare it with the regular version of Bowmore 18! Cheers 🥃!

nice video. Ive wanted the Glen Grant for some years, but it is so darned expensive, it was almost 300 already when i started getting interested in whisky.

@@WhiskyNeighbour yes there is a lot of tempting options at that price. But I do love the 12 it is a favourite for that fruity Speyside style.

Great video Jon! These two, especially the Glen Grant 18, don't seem to get much attention in the whisky geek circles. I've been curious about the Glen Grant 18, hoping its worth a look. Hope to try it soon. And I think you're safe from the pronounciation police! I always wonder where i screwed up as well 😅 Cheers Neighbour 🥃

My first bottle that was given by my missus, yes a Canadian here in North Wales was Glenlivet 18 and yes 43% but now it is 40% here in UK and around £100 to £110 or $180 to $200 Canadian.

The oldest Scotch I have ever enjoyed was 16. All the 18 + year old are out of my price range unfortunately. With all the well aged offerings doubling or more in the last 3-4 years has completely put them out of my mind to ever own. I have always set my bottle limit at $200 per bottle max.
@WhiskyNeighbour2 ай бұрын
Thankfully there are excellent releases in the price range. The Glen Grant is closer to $186 cnd, but for that price I would think of a lot of other bottles first. Still, it's good.

In your opinion what % better is an 18yr over a 12yr. Is this brand dependant?? Trying to determine price worthiness.
@whiskeymusic96842 ай бұрын
If you were to rate your top 18yr olds top 3....
@WhiskyNeighbour2 ай бұрын
Far too many factors and yes, it is distillery dependent. Right now it seems they are 3 to 4x the price, but they are not 3 to 4 x better. They offer a better experience, but not always a better taste. At least in my experience.

Thanks for the name drop! You pronounced these fine, but - simple as the names are - there are still people who get them wrong: I've twice heard people say 'Glenlivay', as if Glenlivet were a French name with a silent "t"! I'm glad Richard explained about 'export strength'. The lower proof preference even works the other way round: Buffalo Trace is normally 45%, but is sold at 40% over here... Do you get Speyburn 18 there? If so, how much is it? It's the one I tend to recommend as best value if people want to try a Scotch single malt of that age (e.g. £76.90 versus £106.90 for Glen Grant 18 or £109.90 for Glenlivet 18 at The Whisky World).
@WhiskyNeighbour2 ай бұрын
@andrewbutler7681 yes we can get the Speyburn 18 here for $144 CND. That is good for an 18 here. Cheers!
@richard90452 ай бұрын
The US/Canada market usually receives an extra 3% apv from Scotch rather than the UK market which is bottled at 40% apv. I tend to ignore 18yos bottled at 40% apv. Slainte
