Interesting, I usually like Indian peated whiskies & with the Sherry it could be interesting too. I personnally struggled with the "Trini" & prefered the "Dru", but my heart goes elsewhere (while I'm still a fan of some Amrut & some Paul John), Indian whisky wise...and my latest video is a give away about it, taking (for me) Indian whisky to next level...Cheers !

Indri seems to be doing these annual Diwali special releases in limited qty. The 2023 release was a banger and sold out quickly and prices went nuts in the secondary markets afterward. I would love to see a bit more production and better global distribution of those. I've had a couple of bottles of Trini from them so far and have had Amruts and Rampur. I haven't delved into research too much but there are a couple of really good up and coming distilleries in India.

Happy Burns Day Jon! Late to comment as I was at the Sens game last night but just wanted to say I love these videos. Great jobs on the Address to the Haggis, I wish Ontario had more option on Lowland Scotch as it’s rather tough to come by. Burns Suppers are one of my favourite things for whisky events and social. I love Celtic lore, music and traditions. I have witnessd a presentation of the haggis with a piper and a bottle of Scotch in Scotland, albeit not on Robbie Burns' night. I agree that poetry, music and art, in whatever form, is slowly fading away. I do write some poetry, usually when something moves me. I will leave you with a short poem of mine. Was $200 in Ontario last December. I thought, what the heck...treat yourself this one time. 4 weeks after I bought it, it dropped to $145. That's unheard of for the LCBO! I was exactly on the 30 day return date, so I took it back, got a refund, re-bought it...then hooked a backup. I'm glad I caught that, literally at the last minute, otherwise I'd have been burned off every time I poured a dram. And you got it for how much?!?! Really shows the markups we pay...sheesh. Can't wait to hear what you think of it. I'd suggest a side by side with the 13. Cheers, and I'll raise one to Al right along with you. It's been over a year, where does the time go? 🥃 "m"e 🇨🇦

In the states the Education system has gone sideways. I’m 65 and they don’t teach anything that I was taught at all. Of course there was the new math and learning systems that came and went thank goodness. They don’t teach basic living skills or how to balance your accounts. No shop classes or physical education classes for grade school students? I believe they need to go back to the basics and teach these skills that are important for living.

I have only ever had one Lindores, picked up at the SAQ in 2023. Casks of Lindores - Oloroso. Stunning sherried offering. I'm nursing the bit I have left, very hard to reach past it. OH...EMM...GEE! That was absolutely BRILLIANT. Addressing The Haggis, Jon style. Pronunciation correct or not, you nailed it!!! 🤣 Hear hear, and well said. The creative arts instill the development of critical thinking, and structure. We are losing that, and it is sad (and frightening)...for many reasons. "Inspiring bold John Barleycorn, what dangers thou canst make us scorn!" To The Bard! 🥃🥃 (No Haggis here either, but a nice dinner out at a pub this evening...) Marian 🇨🇦

LOL! I was totally a fool, but loved every moment of trying to read that. Glad you've had some Lindores. This is good, but I think their single casks or special offerings must be better. Still, good enough for another try, I'll keep an eye out. Yes, glad you agree. Over here we are cutting out almost everything. Starting math earlier. Reducing time for fine arts or combining music, art, and dance into a single, reduced course. It is not the right direction. I am worried for the next 20 years. That said, so many amazing people are still in Education and I know are dedicated to enriching all parts of our life. Cheers the Bard!

Interesting thoughts. Hello from Scotland. We had haggis,neeps and tatties this evening. Shortly to have a dram. I have a bottle of Ralfys Caol Ila which is lovely, so perhaps that one. That was a decent reading of Address to a Haggis. The Burns poem I, and many remember from our old school days is To A Mouse. Funnily enough I am an educator at a secondary school here of the technical subjects you describe. I teach woodwork. Had many former pupils enter trades like plumbing and joinery. Yet to hear of one gaining employment at a cooperage. Sláinte!
@WhiskyNeighbourКүн бұрын
You are too kind. My reading was poor, but I'm glad the joy in reading may have come through! I hope you did not take my comment as any slight at all against the trades. We need even more with over half retireing in the next 20 years and no replacement insight. However, there is more to education and I am worried we are losing it. Employment in a cooperage, that is fantastic. Enjoy the night!

@WhiskyNeighbour no offence taken. Kids need a well rounded education. I moved into teaching as I approached middle age having formerly been a site engineer. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on these two 18 year old Bowmores Jon. Back when I was starting out on my whisky journey, Bowmore 12 was my very first bottle of Islay and I loved it which led me down the rabbit hole of peated Islay. I have since done a 'Tour of Islay' and had at least one bottle from all 8 distilleries available here in Ontario (not Ardnahoe) including multiple Ardbegs, Laphroaigs and Lagavulins. When I go back to Bowmore 12 now, I find it disappointing and so I've hesitated to pay the extra to try the 15 or 18, despite the fact both are priced well (in Ontario) for their age at $130 and $160 respectively. It sounds like I should probably give some sherried Bowmore a try (I do enjoy sherry and peat) so maybe I'll circle back to Bowmore and give one of these a try, especially if they go sale!
@WhiskyNeighbourКүн бұрын
I have had a similar journey with Bowmore. I enjoyed it early on, but now find it bland and fairly regular. That said, the Deep and Complex as good, even really good. So there is hope!

How do Oats and Rice profile in a whiskey versus a more traditional mash bill?
@WhiskyNeighbour6 күн бұрын
The Rice profile is very different, nuttier and roasted. The Oats is more sublte. I need more time to get to know the profile. Right now it is dry, a bit grainy with baking spices. It has good body though and lingering sweetness. It's harder to separate from a spicy, dry bourbon like something from Texas. I'm sure I'll have more to say later.

I have never actually had any of these whiskies before, but it sounds like an excellent list! I'm particularly curious to try the Maker's 101 now; I'm also not a fan of Maker's because I also find it bitter and there's a very unpleasant fungal/mouldy/mildew note that I get if I don't let it sit and breath for a good 15-20 minutes. I more recently bought the Maker's 46 and it was marginally better, but still not enough for me to really be willing to go back to it and so I'd basically written off Maker's entirely. I've always ignored the 101 because I could just get WT 101 for half the price but maybe I'll pick it up if I see it go on sale. I'm also curious to try SoV because I've been following them ever since you first featured their stuff. Unfortunately since their Canadian Whisky of the Year award a while back their prices have gone crazy and so I've ignored their releases (the same has now happened with our local distillery, Paradigm Spirits). I'm hoping the announcement of their upcoming core range of whiskies will bring prices back down to reason and maybe I'll get something, or better yet I'll stop by when we're in BC this spring. Thanks for sharing Jon and all the best in 2025!
@WhiskyNeighbour6 күн бұрын
I hope you get the chance to sample a dram of the 101. I was completely surprised by it, but it is still a Makers. Some of that bitterness persits, it's just in much better context and lets a richness come out. At least for me. I hope SoV can bring a moderately priced bottle to market too. Their Realms of Rye series is fantastic, but priced high. Thanks for taking the time to share your experience here, and I hope you enjoy many great releases in 2025!
