Oh wow this is interesting, that’s a significant obstacle. I wasn’t even aware of this. I was up this way last year but cut west after going north over the pass so I didn’t encounter it. Further south in Vidette meadow area there’s a big band of blowdown but it got cleared.

I think it's since been cleared. The park service has done an unbelievable job recovering from 2023. The SFSJ bridge has already been replaced and I saw a video of others going through this area this year and the trail looked like it had been cleared.

Interesting video. I watched quite a few PCT & JMT videos this season and yours is the only one I've seen that mentions and covers this debris field. What a mess! How long would you estimate the field is, a half mile or so? It would be nice if you could have recorded your tracks through this section. Hope they come through with some chain saws to break trail again.

Interesting that no one else mentioned it in their videos. It was a continual conversation amongst the hikers I encountered along the way. The debris is close to a half mile long...maybe just under. The ranger I ran into didn't think it would be cleared this year but it really comes down to priorities for the trail crews. I would think this area would be at or near the top of list along with the bridge outage at the South Fork of the San Joaquin. Minimally there should be more signs of travel/beaten down path this year. Good luck on the hike. Oh, and sorry but I didn't record my path but I think once you get there you'll be able to figure it out. I stayed high above the debris.

I was up there in Dusy Basin just before this - couldn't do the north lake south lake loop because a bridge was out in evolution valley somewhere...As well there was one that was demolished near Reds. I wonder if you could comment. "Impassable!" they said.

Hmm, the only bridge issue on the North Lake-South Lake loop is the South Ford of the San Joaquin which is fordable (40:00 min mark). This bridge will likely be out for some time. There is an "over the top" cross country bypass that both Andrew Skurka and Elizabeth Wenk have detailed. It involves leaving the trail (assuming SoBo) at Aspen Meadow and Navigating to McClure meadow on the NE side of the trail. I looked at it when I was there and it looked messy. Manzanita and loose rock. didn't look fun but doable. glad the river was fordable!
