I have been reflecting a lot on life in the 90s and how amazing it was in comparison to now. And it's not nostalgia. It was such a better time, pre-Internet. Way fewer mental health disorders in people. These things are quantifiable through statistics. Thanks for sharing this interview. I love how he shared that they haven't had a commercial "success" since 1995 because there isn't anyone who could argue that Toad isn't still successful. Helps us really apprrciate what success is and how it is different for everyone. I appreciate that so much.

Glen is a great guy. Super down to earth. I met him many times. I sold merch for him for WPA in 2009. My favorite band.

Great interview. Dulcinea holds a special place in my heart, because when I first bought the CD after it was released, I had already loved Toad from their smash hit "All I Want". I was listening Dulcinea in my car, and when I reached the bridge in song #10: "Inside", I knew - for the first time - that I had found my favorite band of all time. I was 17 years old. Toad is STILL my favorite band, and that will never change.

Great conversation with one of my heroes, with Toad having been a huge part of my teenage and early adult musical journey. He touches on an overlooked point in what "alternative" meant at the time. At its outset, it wasn't anything resembling any one genre. It was a section of the record store - that's it. If it didn't easily fit into those other preconceived genres of jazz, country, rap, classical, rock, or R&B, you'd probably find yourself browsing the section labeled "Alternative," as in, "Everything Else." And somehow since those days it's become this weird genre label that's been overused to the point of being meaningless. But no matter - thank you, Glen, for all you've done and all that your projects have meant to so many of us. See you out on the road later this year!

It was so fun getting mail from them, they also had a listserver way back in early internet days all text no pics....lol I have seen Toad at least a dozen times been a fan since 1989

Thanks for sharing! Neat to hear from Glen! Glad Toad inspired Jars of Clay, whom I still love! Jars had that fusion sound that Glen is talking about. Hip hop beats, acoustic guitars, great string parts that go from classical to country, folk instruments like pan whistles. Great first record.
