I just realized what these lyrics mean. Almost every line is simply “famous last words” meaning things that we tell ourselves but are always false. The lyrics don’t tell a story but they simply convey different examples of things we want to believe are true but we realize after getting beaten up by life that they are not true.

Robert Hartman Agreed! He’s been a favorite of mine for as long as I can remember...I’ve grown up with him and I cannot recall a time when Toad/Glen wasn’t on a mixtape, cd, or playlist. I have a cool big brother who forced me to listen to Bread and Circus in 1989 while I was still playing with Barbies. I didn’t get it then but I didn’t have a choice to eventually fall in love with it. And Glen couldn’t be kinder in person. So much love. So much respect. 🖤
