I bet you could leave out the spices and raisins and the recipe would make a great “blank canvas”. Add dried cranberries and orange zest for a nice, cakey orange cranberry cookie.

The applesauce cookie I have does take an egg in it. Many a time I have subbed mashed banana for the applesauce and instead of nuts, put in mini chocolate chips and a small bit of buttercream frosting on top, it's like a bite size piece of banana bread and a favorite.

My grandmother made these all the time for my grandfather to take in his lunch. My son chose these from my grandma’s recipe box because the card was greasy and it looked used. I pout cranberries in instead of raisins. I also put the dough in the fridge for about a half hour. Almost exactly the same recipe. Loved seeing these.

Applesauce cookies are a family favorite! My grandmother, who was born in 1893, made these for her large family. Today the recipe (very similar to yours) is enjoyed by her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She used chocolate chips (instead of nuts and raisins) and always frosted the cookies with chocolate frosting. Her recipe, however, does include eggs and originally used shortening. Thanks for sharing this recipe with your viewers.

Back in the 1970s My grandmother used to make the soft cake like applesauce cookies for Christmas gifts for her several grandchildren. Her recipe does have an egg and used shortening. Her daughter Annabelle found the recipe in a magazine and cut it out and put it in a scrapbook when she was a young . I was given her recipe scrapbook a few years ago. I imagine the recipe must at least seventy years old. We were always told leave the dough in the refrigerator overnight so the flavors have a chance to meld before baking.

May the channel and community of “Glen and Friends” grow exponentially, while maintaining a unique CANADIAN quality of humbleness and “style” of entertainment/comedy we have come to appreciate. “CANUCK” humour is easily recognizable by another proud, intelligent fellow Canadian! Your style and sense of humour sets this show apart…and…WHY - myself and others, both enjoy it ,and prefer it, over THOUSANDS of others freely available to watch! Have a wonderful weekend!
