Glencoe Landscape Photography | Inspiration is everywhere - In this video, I capture 40+ inspirational Pictures.
This is just typical of me... there is no point travelling so far and only taking a shot or two. I don't like making 4 or 5 part videos either. So in this video, I have crammed in some of my highlights and I have also included 40+ inspirational pictures. Enjoy!
► GLENCOE WORKSHOP - tinyurl.com/yx...
► VLOGGING EXPERIENCE DAYS - tinyurl.com/yb...
► ISLE OF SKYE WORKSHOPS - tinyurl.com/y2...
► ONE-2-ONE WORKSHOP - tinyurl.com/y5...
Last week I travelled North to Glencoe for a 4-day whirlwind tour. I travel twice a year to the Isle of Skye and make it my pilgrimage to stop off on both directions and photograph different parts of Glencoe. I have been doing this for years. I have been running Workshops up North for the past 8 years but I have never had the time to run a separate course to Glencoe. This year it's going to be different!
Glencoe and the surrounding areas truly are amazing places. It has to be up there with Iceland when it comes to the photographer's bucket list!
Glencoe is so beautiful that even some of James Bonds blockbuster "Skyfall" was filmed there. If you've seen the film you'll recognise the spots when you go there.
There is nothing like the early morning light to capture a stunning picture of Buachaille Etive Mor. It's the shot every photographer must have in their portfolio. It's a classic shot but since Buachaille Etive Mor is an icon of Glencoe it's a shot you must have.
There are stunning landscapes to be had and most of them require very little effort from you! Some of the best locations are literally a stone's throw away from the side of the road This makes Glencoe easily accessible to just about everyone, old or young, fit or unfit! Obviously, I will encourage everyone to venture much further away from the easily accessible locations but this will be up to you!
THANK YOU
Gary

Gary Love your work and your weekly you tube work. Watching you from Canada. I love Skye btw the water was a Loch you are in Scotland lol. Only one lake in Scotland the Lake on Monteith. You have inspired me to get out. It would be helpful if you could contain more technical help on taking the photographs. Stay safe during this lockdown. Regards, Ian

After watching your videos for over a year, I decided to subscribe today at the time I have unsubscribed from almost any other photographer I followed in the past. Passion is the reason I subscribed. Your videos are full of passion, you are a truly down to earth dedicated photographer who also has a fantastic eye to capture amazing images. Your videos are very honest and you have a very friendly way of delivering the message. I know this video is now old and you might not be interested in reading messages from old posts. But if you do, I encourage you to keep on the great work, stay loyal to the cause and never EVER stop shooting. You are great at it. Cheers

Aye, brilliant images along with great dialogue. Glen Etive as in Et iv, not Et eev. You should try saying Tighnabruaich. I live in Tighnabruaich and photograph not just the usual A1 scenes but also those that others don't get to see. In a way it is a documentary of the area, I have those older folks to those who lived here a wee while ago to last year to the present and all share the same comments.... they all thank me for sharing the memories that those folk care about. From the tree sapling to the old shed, from the trees on the islands to the rhododendron's and so on in your vlog, time never stands still and one day later all has changed. Images are not just images, they are emotions and a time capsule ready to awaken the next person. Regards Paul Paterson photography

Hi Gary. Loved every moment of this ! Very impressed with your efforts to get that reflection shot on Lochan Urr - it's a stunner ! I know it's a matter of preference, and that's why photography's so great, but I actually prefer your colour shots at Corpach and in Glen Etive (not that the mono shots are too shabby !!). You must be over the moon with the portfolio you've created here - everyone is a keeper. Huge thanks for sharing this with us Gary.

Great vid Gary, thoroughly enjoyed it and- you show this beautiful part of my country off to fantastic effect. Thanks. Just one thing: there's no EVE in Glen Etive. It's "Et" as in "net" and "ive" as in "give". But well done on pronouncing the Buichaille properly - not many of your fellow countrymen get that one right!

Hi Garry , 1st of all , well done for getting through those Rhododrendron to get that Image at Lochan Urr , we did the same a couple of years back and it was horrendous , but definitely worth it to get that Image , and you timed it just perfectly , your next shot of the old shed , there is a sad story there { only reason Im commenting cause I thought that you should know as I know you will be as disgusted as we were when we found out } but the original bike , the one I would assume is in the friends Image was stolen , yes ,thats right stolen , for whatever reason no-one knows , and then was replaced by another photographer , we just could not believe that someone would stoop so low as to do such a thing , again , another lovely and inspirational Vlog Garry and some really super Images

Hi Gary, I ran Scottish Photo Tours in Glencoe for a number of years, and the reflections shot in Lochan Urr was a favourite location and is certainly not "unique" - great video though and loved your photography - keep up the good work! By the way, NEVER call our bodies of water a "Lake" - except when you're at the Lake of Menteith in Scotland...the locals hate that!!

Lovely work and resilience. Glad that your factor 50 ambresolaire was waterproof. For me, I think it was probably no.17 picture in the ending that was the nicest, and the be similar at about 9.22 both of the lake - just because you had the break in the weather allowing some happy colour.

Hello Gary, I've watched this video a couple of times now to make sure it all sunk in! You always show a greater number of shots than other vloggers but it never compromises the quality. This is an awesome collection and my favourite is the simple b&w end on view of the wreck, well done, truly magnificent! Del

Excellent vid of my favourite place, the loch you had difficulty getting to is Lochan Urr and I've taken that same shot a few times over the years it is an enchanting location. You have some stunning images in this vid. Sad to see that old shed finally succumb to the elements and yet the bike remains, I'm so glad I took images of it before it was gone. Btw the Lake of Menteith is the only 'lake' in Scotland, everything else is either a loch or a lochan , depending on the size. Wonderful work, may bump into you when you are next up here.

Don't go near the place in the summer. It'll be crawling mosquitoes and tourists. Not sure which is the worst :) That's why I'm running mine in the winter.

Gary Gough the small 3 way head on your tripod? Does it take an Arca plate. I’m an Aussie but have visited Glencoe a dozen times. There and Torridon my favourite places. I’ll try and bump into you next I’m over.

Action packed with some masterpieces - adore the black & white of the wee white hoose and moody clouds… oh and the boat and all the other shots what a great 4 days that would have been. Need to get myself over to Scotland and get on a workshop… this video is saved in my favourites now… beautiful images

Loved the video and your pure enthusiasm. Your enthusiasm itself is enough to make me want to grab my camera. Wasn't sure about that music although the piano at the end really sets the mood for your amazing photos (personal taste obviously). Would love to learn to edit like you do. I literally just bought Affinity Photo but see nearly everyone uses Photoshop. I imagine once you know how you can edit your photos, it changes the way you see an image when you are on location? Oh, and what a great photo at 0:24 :)

Gary, nice vlog. My favorite is the "Print" the one with the reflection on the lake and the island in the middle (maybe the color version feels more natural to me ).

Great effort and result for your A1 Image. The last time I saw the shed it was still standing! Will be passing through Glencoe later in the year, sadly not enough time for exploring as we are on are way to Mull!

Great vid and content as usual Gary. I have very similar shots to you though not exactly the same, as I met you in Glen Etive on that day and as you say, the light was exceptional, you didn't get a photo hand feeding the deer though, or at least I don't think so. Great meeting you and having a bit bit of a laugh. Looking forward to your next instalment.

Another super video Gary! What you described as your final shot of the trip - before you saw the rainbow - is one of my favourites and also print worthy. The one with a dead tree trunk on the bank if a lake. The one where you had to crawl through the brush to get was great too. I was shocked to see bushes of rhododendrons growing there - an entirely non-native and invasive species. If you haven’t already, please post some of these in your website so we can get a better view. I watched the video on an iPad mini and will rewatch on my iMac later.

I really hate it when you think you have an amazing spot noone else has been to, then you find the description to that spot in a 2016 guide book...."if you want to shoot from in front of the bushes you'll have to scramble through them or wade along the shoreline". :-( Personally, I think your shot was WAY better...and I know you will probably not read this, as you posted this video months and months ago, but its worth others seeing and understanding that the excitement you feel (and absolutely showed on this vlog) when you find a possiblly awesome shot you havent seen before, means that no matter what, its still individual. Where you found it on your own, seeing the view for the first time with fresh eyes will mean that any shot that you take will have your own, completely uninfluenced stamp on it....and thats invaluable when you are a photographer. I am learning so much by seeing how you approach your photography. Many thanks.

@@GaryGough well I didnt expect you to be reading comments on an old video, my absolute apologies for the rubbish assumption. (I was hoping to encourage others towards scrapping the stupid idea of the shot needing to be completely original, to be worth anything) I am just at that stage where I am tempted to stray a bit from the classic 'safe' shot, so seeing the adventurous spirit you have has been an inspiration. I am no spring chicken and since there have been several comments on many of my instagram posts about how nearly every post seems to be an 'adventure', I can see this is going to be quite a ride... Please keep up the excellent work, seeing the behind the scenes bits, are just as valuable to those learning, as the more formal 'this is how I did it' style.
