I took this 8mm movie in 1963. It begins at Broadway and Brand in Glendale and finishes at the Brand Estate. The senior gentleman holding the Polaroid camera is my grandfather, Fletcher Pomeroy who was the long time chauffeur and gardener for Mr. and Mrs. Brand, and lived on the estate for many years and raised his family there. My mother, Louise (named after Mrs Brand) , appears as well.. She was born and raised on the estate. I chose Broadway and Brand for the movie because it was there that I celebrated VJ Day, the end of WWII in 1945. Do not copy without my permission, but enjoy viewing "the old days."

My home town. I was born in Glendale in 1958 and this film is my childhood memories of that wonderful city. I was there last week on business, my God, how it has changed. So sad.

_how it has changed. So sad._ Every scene in that video is still here today. I walk Brand Blvd. every day. The corner of Brand and Broadway 0:35 in the vid is Security Pacific First National Bank ... the bank where I got my first car loan in 1977, that building remains, is now a Mens Warehouse (clothing store), The bank on Lexington and Brand, seen at 2:08 (brick and teal colors in the background) is still there; the street "angle parking" is still there, El Miradero 2:29 is still there at Brand Park; looks the SAME.

Thanks for posting this treasure. I was born in Glendale in the late 50’s and we lived there till 1963. My dad had a photography studio on Brand Av and we lived on Broadway where the Galleria shopping mall parking lot now stands. Great times !

I got my first car loan in that Security Pacific 1st National bank bldg. on the N/E corner Brand/Broadway. Now, it's a Men's Wearhouse.

I used to live in Glendale. I always liked how the Brand Library looked with its india style architecture. I liked the fountain, too.

I used to go to Finley's hobby shop up on Brand across from the Glendale Federal Bank and Roxy theater. Other theaters on Brand were The Alex theater, the Glendale, the Capital, and the Sands. I watched them build the Galleria. Used to live across from the future location of the new main fire station on Oak Street. Man, I'm old

In the1990's I lived on Allen Avenue, just a few blocks from the Brand Library, and I used to ride my bike up there quite often. It's a beautiful place to spend an afternoon. The next time I am down in LA, I think I would like to see it again.

dance studios pretty much dried up by the end of the 80s. free style of the 60s to 70s turned people away from paying for lessons.

I grew up down the street on Sunset Canyon Dr. In the 60s and 70s and spent a lot of time at Brand Park. Later I got married at the fountain in front of the library.

Haha Did you notice there were very few, if any traffic signals on Brand Blvd? Looks like mostly stop signs at each major cross street. Boy, times have certainly changed.

As great as this video is, it would have been even better with some background narration saying who was who, what was what, where was where... that sort of thing... fantastic that it's in color!

@Captain Deci Your question prompted my review of my grandfather's memoirs, but unfortunately they end near the point he became an employee of Brand's. Given the character of Brand and my grandfather, how he became Brand's chauffeur, and their long standing relationship, I would give the story some credence. The last of his living children (my Aunt Esta) will be visiting my sister Wednesday. She is 101 but sharp as a tack. She might have a recollection that might shed some light on your question, so I will direct your question to my sister to ask her. Aunt Esta was raised on the Brand estate (along with mom and my now deceased aunts and uncle) so she is the last contemporary source. David

@Jacob Glenman All areas near LA are expensive. One of the reasons why Glendale is also very expensive is because it is very safe compared to other cities in LA county.

Fluky Review You're making it sound like it's a bad thing... I mean shit, I've never been to Glendale, so I don't know what life is like there, and I'm not sure why Armenians have such a bad reputation in Glendale either. But the Armenians I've met aren't all that bad... Some do have an egotistical problem... but the average Armenian is fine.

@@gameexpert2011 People love to point out the bad things and judge a whole group same goes every group of people, you'll hear people say something. I've lived there and its a beautiful city. Great people and low crime. Ranked one of the safest mid size cities in America. Love the communityfeeling I get when I visit. It is an immigrant city for the most part mainly Armenian/Hispanic and for the most part they stick to eachothers groups. Although it has changed alot since I moved out.

You can go back.....if only for a day or two. Turn off your cell phone, don't look at a TV, smile at strangers, eat at home, hang out with family at a park. fly a kite, play cards with friends, not video games, avoid talk radio, visit your grandparents, walk to the market, make cookies with the kids, hand write a letter to someone you love and mail it , don't say "f**k" all day long, and go to bed by 10. Don't rush!!, DavePaul
