Created by Percival Moody 1931-32.
Use for any purpose requires written permission from Mr Bill Moody and the State Library of South Australia.
Moody filmed historic South Australian events, occasions and attractions between 1929-1950, and raised funds for charity through public film screenings.
Here we see beach life at Glenelg in the early 1930s.
Firstly, scenes from the foreshore taken in 1931. Moody captures a large array of beachgoers and then takes in views of the buildings and streetscapes of Jetty Road and the Esplanade as well as shots of Luna Park.
This is followed by footage of a surf life-saving competition in 1932.

I can’t believe Glenelg had a Luna Park in the 1930s but we have nothing as cool as that now

Shame that Glenelg is now run down and there are homeless people living in the streets of Jetty Rd etc And sometimes see people fight or disagree with each other like in Elizabeth Or Salisbury

Glenelg had better attractions 80 nyears ago than today. That roller coaster would've been awesome. Why did they ever get rid of it? I rode past that location just the other day.

@@robguitarwizard Luna Park Glenelg wasn't the first. The first in the world was in Coney Island, New York and the Australia's first was in Melbourne, which still operates today. Luna Park Glenelg got relocated to Sydney because it was too 'sinful' and attracted 'undesirables'. The rollercoaster, big dipper operated until 1979 at it's new location but Luna Park Sydney is still operating today (and is currently being renovated).
