Lovely review Ben. I've just been gifted the G12 for my 60th birthday and it is certainly a very good whisky. The tendency will all my malts is that they do get better with more air and as the volume decreases (perish the thought). I'll try and take my time with this one and enjoy the journey, but alas it is too balanced and flavoursome to be left for any length 😉.

Nice one. Agree wholeheartedly with your assessment, although I prefer the new release. More precise with more toffee vanilla. Delish. Love the orangey finish.

I just finished a bottle of the 12. It kinda reminds me of the Black Bush, which is a blend but it has 80% malt.

That's an interesting comparison, I think I found a lot of orchard fruits (apples) when I tried the Black Bush so can see where the overlap may be! Cheers CharlesOffdensen 🥃👍

Great review I can’t wait to have a dram of it and listen to your review at the same time Glengoyne is the first whisky 🥃 and distillery I visited. I walk the west highland way and on the first day of the hike you pass the distillery... I almost walked away because I knew nothing about 🥃 and I turned my back and went to the visit and fell in love

A good review Ben 👍. The cask make up (I think)differs in the core range between 1st fill bourbon, 1st fill sherry, refill bourbon/ sherry and the 18 has around 30~35 %1st fill sherry European oak. The 15 has more 1st fill bourbon than the 12 and the 12 has more 1st fill sherry than the 15. Also I think the 15 has been discontinued, shame because I prefer the 15, its quite subtle in its flavours. Still Glengoyne do make good whisky. Slàinte Ben

Good info David, thank you. I think at the time I picked up those mini's to compare I was mostly oblivious to the nuance of cask types and their use, so I just saw different ages and went with that. Glad I picked them up anyways! I've always been a fan of Glengoyne in bourbon casks 😉 Cheers David 🥃👍

A good tip: put whisky which is in a bottle with over 50% air into a smaller bottle. Don't allow the air in the larger bottle to affect the whisky.
