Tim and Dave, i love to see my two favorite Spirits reviewers back in the fall of the year and doing lots of Scotch, Bourbons, and Rum reviews. I really enjoy listening to Tim rifle his whisky knowledge about while Dave smiles and the cat throws up occasionally. Lol. I hope to see you guys bringing out a bunch more great Whiskeys here soon so i dont have to watch as many SMR reruns. Cheers men. Whiskey Craig

Maybe Port Charlotte near Bruichladdich might open in the near future but for now it is actually Port Ellen in the south of Islay which is reopening. Diageo are rebuilding the distillery according to the original plans but where as the distillery which they closed in 1983 had two sets of stills, the reincarnation will have only one set of stills made the exact same blueprints as the old and have an annual production of some 800,000 litres. The spirit produced will be made according to the original documented processs kept by DCL in their new make spirit archives. They hope to be online by 2020. Exciting times.

Thanks guys. As Welsh Toro noted, balanced and controlled. I didn't care for this stuff when it first arrived on the shelves. I am a huge fan of the 12 yo going back to the early 1980s so my palate was expecting something more Glenlivet I guess. I'll probably give it another try in the future.

Thanks for the news guys, id be very interested in trying a Port Ellen as some point.

Can you guy's please review the Spey River 20yo?? No one has a review on it and I've been eyeing it off for a while now and i'm on edge about pulling the trigger.

I appreciate the wide range of spirits you guys review. This one is too expensive compared to some of the 12y Scotches that are available. Cheers!

Regarding Rosebank. The new owners ( Ian MacLeod Distillers) had two negotiations to make. They managed to get the rights from Diageo to use the branding plus purchased the old stock. The original site was bought from DCL and now owned by Scottish Canals and they succeeded in buying the site back from them. Nothing exists of the old distillery except the warehouses and that is just the shell. They have a lot of building to do. The original stills were stolen and melted down for copper but DCL kept the blueprints for the stills and mash tuns in their archiives as well as samples of new make spirit for comparison.

It'll be interesting to see if they can faithfully re-create the Rosebank spirit. It's one I've actually never tried (never even seen!) but I hear it had quite a particular character. That old stock will not be cheap...

I think you are being very kind to the Founders. I think Glenlivet is doing themselves a disservice with an entry bottle of very low standards compared to their other (not all that expensive) bottlings. Good review as always guys :)
@TheSingleMaltReview7 жыл бұрын
I didn't think it was too bad, taken for what it was. But I agree that it should probably be a bit cheaper, given the old 12 year old was only fractionally more expensive (it's significantly more so now).
@magicsteve55234 жыл бұрын
I enjoy this one, I think the differences between this and the 12 are pretty marginal with the 12 being a bit more complex, definitely don’t understand all the reeeing over it replacing the 12 as the entry level.

This was gateway to scotch 6 months ago. I've since found I prefer Highland( Oban, Glen Garioch) and Islay scotches as a general rule.
@TheSingleMaltReview7 жыл бұрын
Well then I'd say it did it's job as an entry level whisky then!
@welshtoro32567 жыл бұрын
A well balanced review considering the anger and hysteria surrounding this expression. you can still pick up the 12 but it's quite expensive for a 12 year at 40% etc. I recently enjoyed a Signatory Vintage 20 year old Glenlivet aged in fino casks at 46% for about the same price.

I was actually in Clynelish distillery two weeks ago. Brora is NOT across the road. It is within the same complex. The car park and entrance visiter's centre is in the middle. The 1960s style Clynelish distiillery building is to the left and the old Brora distillery buildings are directly behind the visiter's centre. When we were there, one of the mash tuns had exploded and they had cancelled tours to the Clynelish building. MY BAD! Instead the guide said rather apologetically that she would instead give us a tour inside the old Brora distillery buildings. I laughed and told her I was just SO SO SO SO upset! What bad luck to have a tour of the old Brora buildings! I got to take photos of the original stills which are about to go through refurbishment.

Interesting to know the old stills are all still there. That one shouldn't be too hard for them to get running.

I see that you two are anything but snobs in your choices for reviewing (cheers to that!), evident by this very entry-level Glenlivet, you should definitely try the Speyburn "Bradan Orach", entry-level and kind of inexpensive as well. I would be keen to see how this would perform in comparison.
@TheSingleMaltReview7 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I've always had a bit of a soft spot for Speyburn, so I'll keep that one in mind.

This whisky is nice but lack's complexity. It is plain, kind of watery, but with hints of greatness.

A good tasting review with some special information. Would probably be even better, if the guy without glasses would not constantly talk and a true dialogue between the two guys would take place ...;-)

this isnt worth the value that they are selling at! I'd pay 25 dollars Canadian for a 750ml of this that's about it
