I had just finished taking tonal theory in college, had just found the ability to understand Glenn's genius on "the deep level", when he up and died. It felt personal, like something precious I just found was taken from me. Of course, his memory and recordings and brilliant lessons and musings are blessings to us all, and I will selfishly live with these things.

You can find it on YT, but the gist was that later in life he was increasingly neurotic and anything he did on camera was scripted out by him early on. Idk, I think that makes it more interesting and philosophical/methodical, but that's just me.

I wouldn't be who I am today if I hadn't listened to Gould's interpretation of Bach when I was a kid (The CD was called The Gould Variations). For me, there never was and never will be a better pianist for Bach's keyboard works than Glenn Gould.
