Thanks for sharing. Gould’s counterpoint clarity is fantastically awesome. His lectures are just as rich and just as inspiring as his playing.

Glenn Gould - genius. Bernstein - not so much.

A Gould anecdote. When he was 25 years old, he became the first North American to play behind the Iron Curtain. He was more or less unknown over there, and the theatre crowd was pretty sparse. At the intermission, they all got up and left, leaving the organizers wondering what had turned them off. By the time the second half of the performance began the theatre was packed to the rafters. What had happened was everyone went out to phone their friends, to tell them of this fantastic piano player. Gould was a phenomenon.

I sometimes think Bach composed his keyboard works specifically for Gould...

Back when people were encouraged to be literate, cultured and truly educated. I don’t think a Glenn Gould could be borne of todays misery and electronic culture.

Ironically, I remember reading a Canadian Press article talking about how Gould would have loved the Internet. Gould also made several predictions along the line of the sort of digital libraries for music recordings.

A lot of Gould, but has nothing to do with Bach.

A very old cliché that has now become rather tired! The same could be said of Richter or Pogorelich's Bach, which is, of course, ridiculous.

Bruttissimo, pesante, ma sono comunque i grandi maestri, gould e bernstein

Slow version. Osetinskaya is far superior. Anglos just don't get it
