This is literally what US foreign policy is based on lol...as someone above pointed out, this is how the US maintains its coercive leverage - through a financial empire which creates states of dependency and debt peonage; see: "washington consensus", and the IMF/World Bank's "structural adjustment" policy which stipulates dollar loans in exchange for complete subordination to US corporate/finance capital and its "shock therapy" austerity programs which serve to strip-mine resources and control labor/regional markets. The US has positioned itself as the "consumer of last resort" at the end of the global supply chain to absorb inevitable overproduction of capitalism through cheap consumption or of course through our favorite activity of war/arms sales (military Keynesianism, the only button we can push at this point clearly), launching itself to hegemony post-WWII via imposing the Bretton-Woods international financial system with the US dollar as the "global reserve currency" using the leverage of being the only industrialized nation-state NOT bombed to ashes (US made sure of this with Dresden/Tokyo fire-bombings and of course the entirely unnecessary atomic bombings which were solely to draw radioactive lines in the sand toward the USSR) and taking the imperial baton from the British and their pound sterling. Reminded of Michael Parenti, an excerpt from his piece Mystery: How Wealth Creates Poverty, which highlights this lacuna of class consciousness cultivated under the auspices of global US empire: _"In their perpetual confusion, some liberal critics conclude that foreign aid and IMF and World Bank structural adjustments “do not work”; the end result is less self-sufficiency and more poverty for the recipient nations, they point out. Why then do the rich member states continue to fund the IMF and World Bank? Are their leaders just less intelligent than the critics who keep pointing out to them that their policies are having the opposite effect?_ _No, it is the critics who are stupid not the western leaders and investors who own so much of the world and enjoy such immense wealth and success. They pursue their aid and foreign loan programs because such programs do work. The question is, work for whom? Cui bono?_ _The purpose behind their investments, loans, and aid programs is not to uplift the masses in other countries. That is certainly not the business they are in. The purpose is to serve the interests of global capital accumulation, to take over the lands and local economies of Third World peoples, monopolize their markets, depress their wages, indenture their labor with enormous debts, privatize their public service sector, and prevent these nations from emerging as trade competitors by not allowing them a normal development._ _In these respects, investments, foreign loans, and structural adjustments work very well indeed._ _The real mystery is: why do some people find such an analysis to be so improbable, a “conspiratorial” imagining? Why are they skeptical that U.S. rulers knowingly and deliberately pursue such ruthless policies (suppress wages, rollback environmental protections, eliminate the public sector, cut human services) in the Third World? These rulers are pursuing much the same policies right here in our own country!_ _Isn’t it time that liberal critics stop thinking that the people who own so much of the world---and want to own it all---are “incompetent” or “misguided” or “failing to see the unintended consequences of their policies”? You are not being very smart when you think your enemies are not as smart as you. They know where their interests lie, and so should we."_

Did he say Democracies are for peace????? Has he been alive for the past 40 years.
@rakovsky3901
@rakovsky3901 3 ай бұрын
I've read the claim elsewhere that two democrcies don't fight eachother. So that theory, the US, a Democracy, invaded Iraq on false pretenses of WMDs, but it did not count as two democracies fighting eachother. However, the claim seems debatable based in part on where one draws the line for "democracy." So for instance the Confederacy and the Union in 1861 were both Republics and claimed to be "democracies", but one could counter that due to black slavery, the Confederacy was not a true democracy. A similar issue is at work in the Isr.-Pal and Isr.-Arab wars, and people can make arguments over whether the countries involved are "true" democracies or not, since it's common for both sides in those conflicts to have features that we would consider democratic and other features that we would not consider democratic. RFK Jr. gives the impression that in the Isr. Pal conflict one and only one side is a true democracy, but that's really debatable. For instance, all the sides involved have had elections and yet also have had serious controversies about their administrations.

Thank you for being an actual, real journalist who's not afraid to ask the 'uncomfortable' questions, and hold everyone's feet to the fire. Very, very good interview - and a well needed one. The fact such a relatively tiny group of people can control and or outright thwart so much of the public political discussion (and speech in general) is outright dangerous to everyone wanting a democracy - or even just a functioning society, and we need to have *_the_* conversation on their undue influence over western countries' policies and realpolitik. Unfortunately, the dupes who excoriate Israel regarding the treatment of Palestinians, always seem to be either on vacation or have their heads up their asses when it comes to terror groups like Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and Hezbollah who openly still express every intention of destroying Israel. Never seem able to accept the fact the Palestinians have rejected each and every offer ever made to them to settle the conflict with Israel compromising on historic Jewish land the Jews have every right to live on including Judea/Samara aka West Bank, and even offered the Palestinians their independent state in return for an end to any further claims, full peace, and ending the conflict once and for all. They rejected every offer. The Palestinian Authority which rules 90% of Palestinians and Hamas the rest in Gaza is a kleptocracy and dictatorship that jails any journalist who dares report badly on the PA, Mahmoud Abbas. Selling land to a Jew is punishable by death. Hamas murders gays. They deliberately place rocket launching teams close to homes and schools so that when Israel is forced to take them out, after the Hamas rockets are fired indiscriminately at Israeli civilian targets, and if Arab civilians are caught in te crossfire, useful idiots will accuse Israel of murdering civilians, and Hamas gets a win in the asymmetrical information and propaganda war, which goads the UN and international pressure to restrain Israel militarily which Hamas can't do on its own. They indoctrinate their children in their schools using textbooks right out of Nazi Germany's playbook portraying Jews as evil monsters, brainwashing them to believe the Jews have no history on the land, teaching them that sooner or later they'll destroy Israel and push the Jews into the sea, along with a fantasy of some mythical Golden Age of Palestine the Jews stole from them when in fact they have virtually little history, mostly after the Jews returned, which is when suddenly they declared a Nation of Palestine dating back 5000 years as actually Canaanites but no one had ever heard of previous to Israel's reestablishment after 2000 years of Jewish exile. Israeli Arabs have full political rights and in fact, an Islamic Arab political party was part of Israel's previous coalition government. There is full freedom of movement for Israeli Arab citizens. Half of Israel's medical staffers and MDs are Arabs. Arabs have served as justices on Israel's Supreme Court. The justice who sentenced former Israeli PM Ehud Olmert to prison for corruption was an Arab. Palestinians don't have any political freedom under the PA or Hamas. And Israel must oversee the Palestinian territories because there are constant terror threats. Hamas and ISJ even recruit children to carry out terror attacks. Then, in the event the Israeli military or police end up killing a terrorist who turns out to be a minor, again the useful idiots, especially on the Left, accuse Israel of murdering children. And if any of the useful idiots commenting on this page accusing Israel of genocide or apartheid actually bothered to visit Israel, they'd be shocked as to how multi-racial and multi-ethnic it actually is. How the LGBTQ+ community is free. How Israeli Arabs have more freedom than any Arab in any Arab country. And they'd even be more shocked traveling through the West Bank -- believing the agitprop that all Palestinians are oppressed and starving -- as to how many expensive homes and expensive cars there actually are in the major cities run by the Palestinian Authority. How few Israeli security checkpoints there actually are, and how fast normally the lines move, when there has to be security clearance for the sake of Israelis who have suffered under Palestinian terrorism for too long.

I must say that this snuffed out the spark of hope in me that we had a prophetic witness in RFK Jr. The US has spent decades visiting death and destruction on Arabic speaking lands while funding Israel's atrocities against the Palestinians and accusing any voice of dissent of "anti-semitism." The moral response to this is to speak honestly and clearly about the pernicious role of US foreign policy in the region. Instead Kennedy goes along with the fiction that the ONE country in the world that has been beyond the pale of criticism has somehow been unfairly called out for its crimes. I registered to vote for the first time in 12 years because I believed that there would finally be someone on the ballot worth supporting. Yeah, completely agree. I've seen how the anti-zionist Jews are treated in Israel, how the Ethiopian Jews are treated, and how the Christians are treated. It isn't a "safe country" or a democracy. I was very angered at how he said "Where would you rather protest, in an Arab country or Israel?" It's like saying where would you rather protest, in an Arab country ("The Jungle" as Burell calls the rest of the world) or a predominantly 'white European settler' country ("The Garden" as Burell calls the 'West'). It's racist and abhorrent! Jews have lived for centuries in peace and safety (even against Nazism) in Arab countries including Palestine. RFK has just shown his ignorance. I wonder if he's ever sat down and talked to the Anti-Zionist Jews Neutrei Karta (Rabbi Weiss) who protest regularly outside the UN headquarters in New York against Israel and support the Palestinians (where they are from and still have family there. They 'left Palestine because of the abuse and danger by Zionists'). They'll tell RFK about the Palestinians and Israelis to his face gladly. I'd imagine they would greatly appreciate the discussion on this matter.

He has said before, and even intimated at the start of this clip, that he picks his battles for pragmatic reasons. This rationale makes sense to me; I honestly can't determine exactly where to draw the line on honesty vs. pragmatism while trying to compete in politics. I tend to fall way more on the side of honesty, but I also guess there is some line that it would be necessary to keep behind. Israel is an apartheid state and I'm certain that if a Arab state was a apartheid state Roger would criticize them too, and I think RFK Jr. know that so he's being dishonest. How about we compare South Africa under apartheid to Israel, instead of Saudi.

I agree 100%. And while he's at it, he could go into the decades-long US role of supporting oppressive Arab regimes like Saudi Arabia. Instead, he took the well-trodden path of blaming the "bad Arabs" for their backward regimes in order to shift the conversation away from the hideous human rights record of the US-funded apartheid regime.

I am a fan too. He has fearlessly addressed just about all the really heavy issues. However, on Israel with the tweets he ducked. This leaves me with the uncomfortable realization that of all the malignant forces controlling our government, Israel is untouchable even for RFK Jr. I don’t think he can leave the Israel question without condemning it for its relentless bullying of the Palestinians and without conditioning our future aid. It’s bad enough that we taxpayers fund our own never ending wars but to fund the continued bellicosity of an entire ungrateful nation conduct its unending wars is simply too much. Please, Bobby, your values are too strong to be controlled by these Zionists as nearly every administration has been to date.

Yes, good interview by Glenn. He did draw out some of RFK Jr's weak points, but he is still by far the best candidate the Dems have. He has an ethical and moral compass and runs rings around the the rest of the sorry lot, as long as he has a chance to explain himself. Doesn't do well with sound bites, though. I'm all the way with RFK.

What do you think of Arab Countries kicking Jews out of their Countries like Iran, Iraq, and other Arab Countries have done. Would you support returing their land to those Jews were expelled from Arab Countries (or forced to flle due to persecution) Would you support those Arab and Muslim Countries making amends to their former Jewish Citizens, financially compensating them and encouraging them to come back to their Countries and assuring these Jewish Citizens will be treated farily and equitabally? What is good for the Goose- Is good for the GAnder? Arab and Muslims People and Citizen need to live by the same morals that you ask Israel to live by.

Glen, another great episode but I think you need to look into the current Ukraine government, how they treat the press, religious institutions and anyone that shows any type of dissent towards the current Ukraine administration. You may think you were reading stories about NAZI Germany, Stasi East Germany or former communist KGB in the USSR. Never mentioned on the main stream press.

Wow, Glen asked him the most difficult question possible. 😅 The answer is that no high level politician can be elected in the US who does not support aid for Isreal, so he has no choice but to pledge support or not run. RFK is too left for my tastes but he gave an honest and satisfactory answer to the first hard question (ie why did he delete the tweet?) and would be a major upgrade fro the current clowns in office, though that is a very low bar.

HIs position on Israel may be wrong and the Palestinians definitely need help. So do the Syrians, Yemenis. Let's hear his positions on those countries too. Is it really smart to have a checklist that a candidate has to score 100% on for support? His stated prime mission "end the corrupt merger of state and corporate power that is threatening now to impose a new corporate feudalism in our country" is my top issue because I think that is what is going to mean the end of any chance at decent life for the majority of us here at home. I want to hear more about how he would end the merger of state/corporate power. For God's sake, any chance of improved policies on anything would be greatly welcome at this point. Maybe Glenn will interview him again and widen the subjects he covers.

Good questions Glenn but everyone keep in mind Biden is not better on this issue nor is Trump. Dr. West is the best on the Israel issue but RFK is better than the first two on Assange, the war in Ukraine, corporate capture by government agencies. He's also careful to not say anything against Israel because of how the MSM twist his words. He has a good heart so I trust his desicion making and it will be good to have this kind of pressure on him when he's in the white house.
