Once went to a World of Outlaws sprint car race. Had never been before, got there as things were just about to get started, and noticed the bleachers were empty at turn 4 of the 1/4 mile oval. All the cars got pushed off to start them and they did a few parade laps. When the green flag dropped, the cars flew around the track and came out of turn 4 sending a wall of dirt into the stands. I, quickly moved to another part of the bleachers to escape the grit attack.

I saw one of these modded to be on the street and it was licensed. Non wing version, but, what a sound even muffled the guy said he lost over 1/3 hp, but still got a thrill of a ride. He had to build a Buddy model for his wife to come along. She really liked it. I’d pee myself and trade my 1/1 1967 mustang to have a streetable model, but, I’m 78+ years young and not many thrills come along, what fun it would be to have one of these cars to go get a burger or pizza. @@walteralter9061 , yes, that was my first run, in fact I buttoned off half track as I couldn’t feel it shift into second. Afterward I found out you often don’t feel it, it’s sometimes seemless. I didn’t want to hurt the engine. I was on my way to a full pass, would have pulled the chutes then. They serviced it up for a second pass which we never showed as it shook the tyres that hard at 300ft out that it set the fire bottle off and made a mess everywhere. After the shoot there was talk from the team of putting me in one to compete but I just didn’t have the time to dedicate as I was full time producing the TV show, which was chewing up 100 hours per week.

My best friend and I both race on dirt. I race bombers, and he races winged sprint cars. He lost a bet to me and if I won I got to hot lap his car. I was very confident when I got in the car that I would make a good showing. I made a few easy passes around the track to get the feel of the car and then I turned it loose. I knew instantly that I had put more logs on the fire than I should have. The car gained speed like a carrier-launched jet and every nerve in my body went on red alert. I let off it and got it around 1 and 2 and hit it one more time down the backstretch just to see if I could give myself a heart attack. When I pulled into the pits and got out of the car, I stood there shakin like a dog shittin razor blades. Now I am not going to admit that the car scared me, although the brown stain in my fruit of the looms wasn't from a wet pack of cigarettes in my back pocket.

A track I took photos at hosted the World Of Outlaws sprinters a few times back in the late '90s. Fast track, 3/8 mile but wide and high banked and tacky, the WoO guys said they were running Half Mile gearing. The cars went into Turn One so fast, the outside front tire was lifted off the track from the force of the wing side plates, and pulling both fronts off in Turn 4 was quite easy for them. I got pictures of Sammy Swindell and Mark Kinser with the outside wheel well off the ground, and due to how hard it is to keep them in frame and in focus, just missed getting similar shots of Steve Kinser and Danny Lasoski. iirc Mark Kinser had the track record, though I forget the time now it was around 125mph/200kph average
