Old 413s ran pretty damn well. My grandfather gave me one with the cross ram induction. Being 15bi didn't know what I had when I stuffed it into my 76 short box d100. I raised he'll with that truck and an old timer cop stopped me on time. He asked me to take a look under the hood to see what I had. I thought he was gonna have a heartattack. Then he explained what I had.

Of course these were the older of the more modern MOPAR big blocks. I remember the one in my Dads 64 Imperial Crown Coupe, he bought new when I was 9. I also remember he alway let me go out to start the car for him before we went for a ride. One day we were at a beach house he was building for the family, they had quit for the day and were eating at a neighbor/friends house next door. Anyway Mom needed something in the trunk and I jumped at the chance to go get it. So being the little devil I was back then, I took the keys, went through the back yards over to our driveway, climes in the car, started it up and proceeded to rev it UP! I have no idea high, but it was enough to shred all but one of the four fan belts! With a loud BANG! OMG! I was SO Scared I blew up Dads beloved new Imperial!! I didn’t know what to tell him! But I never had the chance, as Dad and his friend came running over to see what the dam noise was! Well I could see the relief in his eyes when he saw I had not hit the new house under construction, but that changed to RAGE, when he spotted the pieces of shredded fan belts on the ground underneath the front of the car, and the loud squealing noise from the last one left on the power steering pump!! Oh man did I get a whipping!! Something we all laughed like hell about later in life!!! That was a beautiful car. Dad owned till my 3rd sibling was on the way. When Dad was forced to trade his beloved Imperial in on a new 9 passenger beach wagon! Oh but not just any beach wagon, but an amazing 68 Chrysler Town&Country Beach Wagon, loaded with power everything, farm metallic maroon with matching leather three row interior, AM/FM, huge chrome roof rack with beautiful matching chrome handles on each side of the power rear window and factory towing package with 3:09 posi trac! But most importantly a honking 440/4 brl TNT engine with dual exhaust!!

Excellent and professional job great power curve! I have built and ran a lot of Mopars drag racing my 24/7/365 daily driver 4 door C bodies. Those 4 bolt heads are almost always superior to 516 and 906s, especially the 1959 "509" and early 60s "324" if they have old school welch freeze plugs. It aint all about flow. But the best improvement I ever made was gasket matching. Leave a 1 to 2mm ledge sticking up from the bottom of the head port to flip up any pudding fuel. Never sink the valves. Do a great valve seat job, slightly bowl blend, and leave the rest alone. i get 30% better low lift flow with 30deg intake seats. Bigger ex valves with hard seats. Blend and polish exhaust. Huge gains from a little grinder dust! Better in every area, including MPG. headers and a minimum of 2.5" exhaust a must. Good cam choice!, Im willing to run bigger with no more than a 110 ctr helps. They do not respond well at all to "modern" wide ctr cams. They wanna lope! Overlap seems to help with low octane. With our fuel here in the US, 9 or 9.5 cr is about right. Lower is fine. More timing works much better than more compression. I always run 2x4bbl either inline, tunnel rams, or long rams always synchronized, and no progressive linkages. But you have a great manifold there! I have spent many years learning the Thermoquad carb. Best mpg, tune ability, power, and sound! Dont toss warped ones they're fine just keep the same parts together. I get 21 mpg with a 1968 Crane experimental hyd, "H302" 234° @ .050 109 ctr .455 lift cam (tried about 20 others, nothing beats it, esp not the new crane "302" ) , 4.10 gears, long rams, and two big block TQs. lifts the front end with 4680lb car, low 13s in 1/4 with 8.0 cr on 89 octane. Gearing and torque convertor is key. Get her cruising in the rpm sweet spot. People wondered how it got such good gas mileage. It almost doubled, going from 2.91s to 4.10s at 60mph. 4 mpg better than bone stock! Awesome build!

I've been watching a lot of Nick's Garage on another KZbin channel who's in Canada who mainly works on Mopars and loves the old school Hemi's. Your video must have popped up because I watch his channel. Great video and now I have two channels about dyno tuning car engines etc. I've been into motorcycles since I was twelve when my father bought a new 1972 TS125 Suzuki. Many years later I was working at a motorcycle repair shop which included a machine shop. In 1995 I bought a 1980 GS1000ET Suzuki for $200 stripped it down and rebuilt it as if it was brand new out of the crate and finished it 1 1/2 years later in August of 1997. Lots of modifications to the engine, but kept the O.E.M. carburetors and airbox with a K&N air filter. Stock they did 135mph, red line was at 8500rpms. I changed the drive chain and sprockets from 630 to 530 to lighten it up and kept the same gear ratio because my previous bike "same model and year" only pulled to 7000rpm in 5th gear. The engine I built was so smooth and with gobs of torque from 6000rpms and up pulled to 10,000rpms in fifth gear topping out at about 151mph and kept pulling like a mule, but ran out if gearing. Had I geared it talker, I could have gained another 10mph or so, but never did. I look forward in watching more of your video's here in Miami Florida. P.S. How's the weather down under? 🤔😁🧓

Glenn. I understand that you live in Australia and I gather you own this high performance shop. Since Dodge - Chrysler Corporation is an American Company and I was wondering where you learned to work on the older muscle cars. Did you work at Chrysler at one time or at an American Performance shop to gain your experience. The Hey Day of Big Block Super Stock Drag Racing was the 1960s and 1970s when there was a lot of these Big Block Engines and a lot of men who knew how to work on them. Most of these folks have passed on and took their knowledge with them. There are still some Die Hard Drag Racers out there that run the Big Block Dodge, Ford and Chev 427s but very few are left. That why I was surprised to see an Australian that was not part of that Generation know how to Set one of these Engines up and make it run as this video shows. You Tube has many Videos shot at local Drag Strips that film many Big Block Classics in 1960 s and 70s Cars that dedicated Racers have kept going, I still get a thrill when I see them.

Add at least a 1-in spacer, and you've got four more degrees of timing to play with at least. Big Block Chryslers have always responded well to 34 to 36 degrees of total advance. And it looks like the phasing is pretty good, your timing mark is not jumping around. From your specs, and I don't remember what compression ratio you had but you should be running somewhere right around 4 35 horsepower and right around 490 to 500 foot pounds of torque.

I was always thin when I worked as a busy mechanic in my younger days, but at stacked in on when I got stuck behind a desk as my business grew into a monster some years ago. Glad you’re enjoying the videos and I appreciate your thoughts. 😊

Didn't expect that or so quickly. Yep sure is easy to put on. I did lose 60kg not through hard work lol but health. Hopefully helps me stay round for my daughters. On a different note you still in the dandy area? Because you ran g&d performance? I do hooked on videos going down the you tube rabbit hole. P.s I try to like as many of videos as I remember so you can get out there

Forgive me for being pedantic, but the term for pre ignition is " Pinking", not pinging, the plugs turn pink. To me, it's akin to saying a " mask on a catermerang ". My Dad had a 313 poly in his 1960 Chrysler Royal he bought new, there was nothing around back then, that could could beat my Mum at the lights, she actually looked for Jags to race, never done once. I like your clips, thank you.
@aussiebaz53633 жыл бұрын
@logical The term "Pinking" is due to the people tuning a bike or a car by looking at the spark plug, to determine a lean mixture or dieseling, caused by ignition advancement or jet size ( roughly, as many causes for a lean mix are possible). Pinking is old school and I believe British, where the Yanks changed it to " Pinging", relating to the sound it makes. So, if the engine "Pinks", it makes a "Pinging" sound. So, to me, you are wrong, though to a new generation, who go with the Yanks, it's correct, after all, who cares anyway ? Did you do Math at school, or Maths ? I'm only 70 and grew up with motorcycle engineers, who used to reprimand me with scorn if I said Ping, unless it was followed by a pong.
@dr.hugog.hackenbush94433 жыл бұрын
Its ping, for the sound it makes. If your plugs are pink, it means you or someone has used some STP additive.
@frigglebiscuit74843 жыл бұрын
lmao no. ive never seen ANY detonated plugs turn pink i any way, shape, or form. its got many names. rattling, pinging, knocking, detonation, pre-ignition, but ive never heard "pinking"

@@dr.hugog.hackenbush9443 nah, i use stp oil treatment, and my plugs dont turn pink. they look like normal plugs.

@@frigglebiscuit7484 Please forgive me and do hope you can refit your arse. I was taught that as a teen and scorned by my peers, one being a Jaguar mechanic of renown, if I was stupid enough to call it pinging. It made sense to me, pinging sounded correct. I then saw it again in an English motorcycling magazine, Classic Bike I think, and they also said it was due to the mechanics reading plugs to tune their bikes and pinking was the correct term... Look it up, Pinking, and yes, after a life time of tuning two stroke racing bikes, the pale colour of a pre ignited or lean plug is a shade of pink. Now go and pick your arse up off the ground and stop laughing, you look ridiculous without it.

Correct, that'll be plumbed in when it's installed in the car, then tested on the chassis dyno and street for optimal part throttle scenarios of which the Vac advance system is required.

they are a pain to tune, and can even cause pinging if you arent careful. takes alot of fine tuning.

Really depends on octane available. Lots of broken ring lands due to too much advance. Detonation isn't funny!
