Born in 1953, yup 70 now. I have seen both these guys in concert. Saw Jimmy Barnes many times but my best memory was at the Mooloolaba Pub. Still sticks in my mind. I was running a beach and cocktail bar down the road at another establishment. Wr were closed and we got some guy came down and asked if we could open for a private party late. Guess who showed up. One of the best work nights of my life.

As a kiwi, these two are some of biggest rock stars ever. Theres voices are so powerful, dynamic and there range was insane for male vocalists. @markmark5269
@markmark5269 2 жыл бұрын
Because they're not that great, but it seems to be Australian law that you can't say a bad thing about John "The Screech" Farnham, but the LRB record sales, or lack of them, told the true story. Lucky to get a couple of brilliant songs on Whispering Jack that would have been hits for anyone, but if you're honest, and you clearly won't be, he has had middle of the road success in his career otherwise. Capitol Records did NOT want Farnham as LRB's singer. Barnes is just a screamer, just happens that the music was written specifically for his voice.

1. Jukebox hero. Foreigner I grew up in Australia as a gen X, and in 1984 being fourteen, whilst staying over at my parents' friends place, she said I could listen to her vinyl collection. When I put on Foreigner's "4" album I was totally blown away! Not only by the whole album but when I first heard the drum beat, beating like my own heart had been since starting on this spontaneous adventure of discovery, and then hearing the haunting way Lou Gramm comes in at the beginning of jukebox hero I knew my life would never be the same again. 2. When the war is over. Cold Chisel. On that same fateful day I played Cold Chisel's ( a 70's to early 80's Australian rock band) "Last stand" album. When I heard Ian moss's soulful voice and then Jimmy Barnes's power coming in later on, I knew that this band was mine. Sadly, Cold Chisel had broken up 2 years before. Even though using all my pocket money from doing odd jobs around the neighbourhood and delivering junk mail I vowed to mysel I would buy every album they had produced prior. 3. Driving wheels. Jimmy Barnes After Cold Chisels split up, Jimmy Barnes produced a few great solo albums like "Working class man" and Bodyswerve, but in 1987 he came out with the hit "Driving wheels" on the freight train heart album. As soon ass I heard Mark Lizotte AkA (Johnny Diesel) hit those chords at the start the song, it sent shivers down my spine, and the pure power of Jimmy Barnes voice I was gone. Going to see the concert for this album sitting in my seat as the crowd's noise became a hush, through the ddarkness came the piercing chords of Driving wheels and I will never forget that feeling.

The 70's and 80's were GR8! Times These are just 2 of the 4 things I wish that I could bring back ! The other two are $1.00 schooners and last but not least! Teddy Bullpit!

Cold Chisel is one of my favourite bands, I love their music and I’ve never been a fan of Farnham’s music but seeing them side by side there’s no denying Farnham’s voice. He can sing.

chalk and cheese difference in the voices. John Farnham, Ferrari crossed with a Rolls Royce , and barnes a stihl chainsaw in comparison. Strong chainsaw, but classes apart.

JF, his performances are so awesome, power, ease of delivery, lyric fluid, passion and range. And he is happy and intereacts gracefully with stage or screen. Certainly an Aussie gem.

Sadly ( as a music lover ) I haveta say I gotta take points off for this Jimmy Barnes performance , he's a better singer now & did well with Mr Farnham in Something is Wrong with my baby ~ however Barnes spoiled the mood of this song . Mr John Farnham a true all-round showman and intelligent gentleman like always , improved the original . John Farnham is the Master-class teacher of true singing ( and songwriting ) talent . ♑️✍️🇸🇯🇦🇺
