For Josie, it was a dream come true to head to West Java.
Josie had been wanting to do this trip for many years and so to finally get the opportunity to go, she was stoked!
36 hours of travel later she arrived on the beautiful shores of West Java and ready to ride some waves.

great surfing - but did anyone notice the effrontery to the local culture. Local women dressed in great modesty and along comes western sponsored celebrity in scanty swimsuit. It does have me thinking about how surfing culture shows (or lacks) respect in cultures such as Tonga, Java etc. Not every beach in southern california or Noosa.

I agree. It's odd to me that these women don't understand that they are being played by surf companies. Soft porn sells. And the disrespect they have for themselves and others is offensive. I surfed for almost 40 years and never felt the need to have my behind showing (my nickname was "the body") I was a beautiful young woman. I surfed on team Hotline and for a local surf shop. It was all about Soul and freeform expression. If these women loved themselves they would understand the concept of respect for other cultures.
